There’s a new savoury trend when it comes to cakes. Instead of traditional iced tiers, try serving a tower of salty snacks, from wheels of cheese to my personal favourite: a giant pork pie. I have a weakness for pastry, and pork pies frequently feature in my menu of choice, whether it’s a train lunch, picnic or post-run snack (with all that prime, protein-rich pork, they’re practically a power ball, right?). Surprise and delight at your next event with our lattice-topped pork pie "cake" made with uncured pork and hot-water crust pastry. We’ve garnished ours for a wedding reception with dahlias and ribbon, but who’s to say it wouldn’t look equally fabulous covered in birthday candles?
