Get creative with healthier snacks

Serve up a Halloween feast for your little ones that’s packed full of flavour, fun, fruit and vibrant veggies.

Boo-nanas and marvellous mummies

Slice bananas lengthways, then cut each half into three. Spear each section onto a lolly stick and place on a tray lined with greaseproof paper. Freeze for 30 minutes. Remove from the freezer, dip into yogurt and add two eyes to each banana lolly using black icing. Add a drizzle of toffee sauce to a few of the bananas to create mummy bandages. Place in the freezer until set.

Jack-o’-lantern houmous pots

Remove the top of a pepper and deseed. Carefully carve a jack-o’-lantern face into the side of the pepper, then fill with M&S piri-piri houmous. Serve with fresh veggie crudités.

Marmite® snakes

Unroll some puff pastry and add a layer of M&S Marmite® cream cheese. Cut into long strips and twist. Brush with egg, sprinkle over some sesame seeds and add sunflower seeds for eyes. Bake until golden and add small pieces of pepper to create tongues.

Apple monsters

Cut apples into quarters and remove the core. Remove a small section of the middle of each quarter to create a mouth. Fill the gap with M&S crunchy peanut butter with maple and pecan. Add sunflower seeds for the teeth, a slice of strawberry for the tongue, and icing eyes.

Our M&S chefs have been up to their old tricks, creating some devilishly delicious dishes to make your Halloween feast go off with a bang. For the perfect picky tea or party buffet, pair our mini hocus pocus sliders, made from 100% British beef and golden puff pastry, with our “eye want pizza” mini pizzas, topped with cheese and a gherkin and olive “eye”. Finally, don’t miss our new zom-beef, made with British beef, green peppers and finished with a tomato sauce “blood” dip.

Smoky sweetcorn “ribs”

Really impress by cooking up these easy-peasy and super tasty spiced corn on the cob “ribs”. Not only do they look and taste great, but they also carry our Eat Well seal of approval and are suitable for vegans

Ingredients (serves 4-6)

  • 4 corn on the cobs
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp garlic granules
  • ½ tsp chilli flakes
  • Handful parsley, chopped, to serve
  • 1 lime, cut into 4 wedges, to serve
  • Plant Kitchen vegan chipotle mayo, to serve
  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. Using a sharp knife, cut each corn on the cob lengthwise, then each half into three lengthwise again.
  3. Put the smoked paprika, cumin, oregano, garlic granules and chilli flakes into a bowl along with 3 tbsp olive oil. Coat the corn in the spice mix, then place onto the lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes, until curled and crispy. Top with the chopped parsley and serve with the lime and chipotle mayo.

The petrifying pudding pots 

This no-bake pud stars creamy, sweetened avocado with a cocoa, coconut and date crumble. Use maple syrup instead of honey and swap meringues for marshmallows or homemade aquafaba meringues to make this dessert pot completely vegan

Ingredients (serves 6)

  • 3 avocados, chopped
  • 400g Plant Kitchen coconut pot
  • 60ml honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 4 limes, zest and juice

    For the crust
  • 200g ground almonds
  • 50g raw, shelled pistachios
  • 50g desiccated coconut
  • 60ml coconut oil
  • 5 medjool dates, pitted
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder

    For the topping
  • Mini meringues, Plant Kitchen marshmallows or homemade aquafaba meringues 
  • Black icing 
  1. Put the avocados, half of the coconut pit, the honey or maple syrup, the vanilla essence and the lime zest and juice into a blender. Blitz until smooth and creamy, then set aside.

  2. For the crust, pulse all the ingredients in a food processor and until they form a crumble-like texture.

  3. To assemble, layer in six glasses, starting with the crumble, then adding the avocado filling, then the crumble again. Finish each with a meringue or marshmallow decorated with a black icing mouth and eyes.
