Method

step 1
Toss the diced beef (1 pack) in the flour (2 tbsp) until evenly coated. Heat a large casserole dish over a medium-high heat with a generous glug of oil. Add the beef and cook for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned all over. Transfer to a plate and set aside. Add in the sausages (1 pack) and cook for 5-7 minutes, until golden brown all over and remove from the heat.
step 2
Add the butter (20 g) to the same pan. Stir in the onion (2) and cook for 5 minutes until the onions are soft. Return the beef and sausages to the pan, then add the gravy (1 pouch), Worcestershire sauce (1 tbsp), tomato purée (1 tbsp), mustard (1 tsp) and the water (150 ml). Bring to a gentle simmer, cover and cook for 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened.
step 3
Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas mark 6. Transfer the beef filling to a 20cm x 30cm baking dish and leave to cool for 30 minutes.
step 4
Lay the pastry (1 pack) to the dish and trim away any excess. Press the edges down with a fork to seal, then brush all over with the beaten beaten egg (1). Cut a few small slits in the centre to allow steam to escape.
step 5
Bake for 30-35 minutes until the pastry has risen and deep golden brown. Leave to stand for 5 minutes before serving.
