How to choose a new-season cover-up with serious style mileage, with help from coat connoisseurs Yasmin and Saffron Le Bon

Start with the silhouette

Thirty years in the spotlight have taught Yasmin Le Bon, 52 – international supermodel, wife to Eighties pop icon Simon Le Bon and mother of three – a thing or two about style. Proving she’s as much of a trendsetter now as ever, she models her top picks from our autumn collection alongside youngest daughter Saffron, 26, a musician and fellow fashion fanatic.

“I love coats, but cut is everything,” says Yasmin, looking chic in a smart style with notched lapels and tailored seams. It’s easy to see what she means.

Available in camel or on-trend red, a longline wool-rich coat offers great value per wear. Slip on over workwear or jeans by day, and pair with a satin dress and ankle boots for evening.

Choose wow-factor fabrics

A key trend for autumn (and beyond), a plush coat is the ideal day-to-night piece, elevating any outfit in an instant. This season, tactile textures take centre stage, with finishes ranging from subtle to statement.

Yasmin’s tip for standing out from the crowd? “Make a bold statement with proportions or fabric.” This eye-catching tweed jacket fits the bill perfectly with its catwalk-inspired design and unexpected colour palette ().

With a habit of raiding each other’s wardrobes, it’s no wonder both women made a beeline for the luxe faux furs on offer (). “I keep borrowing a pink frou-frou ballgown from mum,” admits Saffron, a fan of standout pieces. “It’s at risk of wearing out.”

Add personality with details

When choosing an investment coat, it’s worth noting that it doesn’t need to be classic to have style mileage: what matters is what works for you.

No stranger to fearless style, Saffron shows how to pull off a high-shine bomber jacket with a chunky-knit jumper and pleated skirt. Similarly, Yasmin injects flair into her look with a graphic houndstooth print ().

Citing a “really sharp, straight black coat” as her favourite shape of all time, Yasmin tries a utilitarian spin on her go-to look in a sleek, water-resistant jacket (). After all, a coat that looks chic come rain or shine is the ultimate wardrobe companion.
