Why you should try wine in a box, pouch or can

We’re all used to popping a cork on the bottle, but there’s been a growing trend for enjoying your wine from a pouch or can. So what’s all the fuss about? “Boxed wine is better value, and it stays fresh for much longer,” says M&S wine expert Dror Nativ MW (Master of Wine). “The wine inside a box or can is just as good quality as you’d get in a bottle.” Canned wine, meanwhile, is incredibly convenient, and great for those spontaneous post-work trips to the park or summer celebrations, or those moments when you only want one glass.

The best boxed wines

Best boxed red

For summer barbecues, try our Lisboa Bonita Portuguese Red, in a 2.25 litre box. With ripe red and black fruit aromas, enriched with vanilla, it’s a great match for piri piri chicken or hot dogs.

Best boxed white

The ultimate please-all dry white for a party, our Mystery Bay Sauvignon Blanc has notes of tropical fruit and citrus – it’s lovely with chicken, cheeses or spicy Asian dishes.

Best pouch of rosé

Our Coteaux Varois en Provence Cuvée Rosé comes in a 1.5 litre pouch that’s made for summer gatherings – or just to keep in the fridge. It’s a classic pale-pink Provence rosé with delicate red fruit and zesty citrus flavours. Serve as an aperitif or with seafood.

The best wines in a can

Now available in the Foodhall, Vinca canned wines come in recyclable cans and have carbon-offset shipping, so they’re a sustainable choice.

Best white wine in a can

The Vinca white wine can is an award-winning vegan, organic white wine made from the Catarratto grape in sun-drenched Sicilian vineyards. The grapes are lightly pressed, so the wine can retain its crisp, tropical notes.

Best red wine in a can

Try Vinca red wine, a juicy Sicilian red made from grapes grown in the Sicilian sun – you’ll be wondering why you never had it from a can before.

Best rosé in a can

Vinca rosé is made from 100% Syrah grapes from a selection of vineyards that show off the terroir of the west coast of Sicily. Pale in colour, with delicate red fruit notes and a subtly spiced finish.

Best sparkling wine in a can

Our bestselling English Bramble Hill sparkling now comes in a can. It’s crafted exclusively for M&S by Silverhand Estate in Kent, and has floral notes with vibrant gooseberry flavours.
