Meet the best British spring flowers
After a long, grey winter, spring flowers are finally appearing. These cheerful blooms are a sign of new beginnings and the promise of warmer days ahead – perfect for sharing joy with loved ones.
The easiest way to bring spring inside? Daffodils are like sunshine in a vase - a simple way to brighten someone's day. Tulips are available in a rainbow of colours, adding a touch of elegance to any home with their graceful shapes. They also make a wonderful housewarming gift. And then there are the bright gerberas – think of them as daisies with serious wow factor. Their eye-catching colours make them a real statement bloom, ideal for a vibrant and cheerful birthday bouquet.
Whether you choose one type of flower or mixture of several, the best spring flowers will transform any indoor space with their fresh colours, subtle fragrance and refreshing energy.

Yellow and purple flowers: The must-have spring combo
While shades of soft buttery yellow are set to be a big fashion colour this season, when it comes to spring flowers yellow is always in fashion.
Yellow flowers signal the start of the season. Pale yellow primroses are one of the first woodland blooms, quickly followed by cheery daffodils. Soon after, bright forsythia bushes and the vast, golden rapeseed fields transform the British countryside into a sea of yellow. These sunny blooms aren't just pretty – they're essential for early-waking pollinators, such as bees and butterflies.
Creating a perfect colour contrast, purple spring flowers add drama to the season. Crocuses, often called 'the light bulb flower' because of their shape before they fully open, are among the first to appear, brightening gardens and parks from February onwards. Later in spring, woodlands are transformed into magical carpets of bluebells. As spring progresses, tulips join the show, followed by distinctive alliums and the fragrant lilac, a symbol of renewal and confidence.

Simple spring flower arrangements
Want to give spring flower arrangements that look like they're straight from a florist? Start with seasonal stars such as daffodils, tulips and hyacinths, mixing heights and textures for natural appeal. The secret is working with odd numbers – try grouping flowers in threes or fives – and adding greenery like eucalyptus or ferns to fill spaces and create depth.
For longer-lasting arrangements, trim stems at an angle, remove any leaves below the waterline and change the water every few days.
Sometimes the simplest arrangements make the biggest impact, such as a big bunch of daffodils in a clear glass vase or a cluster of hyacinths in a vintage-style pot - both thoughtful and beautiful gift ideas. And if flower arranging isn't your thing, choose a pretty pre-styled spring arrangement in a basket or a rose and tulip bouquet in a vase.
