We’re celebrating Black History Month this October with cosy recipes to share with family and friends. Recipe writer, food stylist and cookbook author, Benjamina Ebuehi, has crafted three delicious dishes inspired by family recipes passed down from generation to generation. Dig into a tray of Nigerian meat pies in buttery, flaky pastry or snack on spiced puff puff with an indulgent ginger cream.
Benjamina’s Black History Month recipes
“For me, Black History Month is a time to remember and celebrate a large part of history that’s often overlooked and ignored. It’s a time to appreciate and acknowledge those who have come before us and shaped the culture in so many ways, from food to music, art and sport. It’s about being visible and being that representation for the next generation,” says Benjamina.
How to celebrate Black History Month
“In October, I like to make an increased effort to visit Black exhibitions, theatre shows and events. There’s always so much on at this time and it’s a great way to engage with artists and creators that I’m not as familiar with,” says Benjamina.
“I also celebrate through food! I have a ridiculously large cookbook collection including plenty from Black authors so it’s always fun tryng new recipes and learning about different countries through their food.”
