What to Wear to Hot Yoga

What is hot yoga?
Your favourite calming practice just got a hot upgrade, and it’s all the rage. Yoga, known for its spiritual, physical and mental practices that bring calm and restoration to the body is also practiced in hot studios of 35 to 40.6 degrees Celsius.
But, why practise yoga in a hotter environment? It’s believed that the heat relaxes muscles to allow for deeper stretching and an increased flexibility which in turn intensifies cardiovascular exercise. Plus, your heart rate will rise, leading to better circulation and higher caloric expenditure. So basically, it’s really good for you.
Getting the right hot yoga outfits
The key to getting the right hot yoga outfit lies in picking the correct fabrics. Look for moisture-wicking jerseys that are lightweight and have quick-drying qualities to prevent you from overheating or feeling uncomfortable. And, anything with stretch is always a good idea to ensure you have ease of movement.
We recommend choosing a low-impact sports bra to accompany leggings or shorts. We love this seamless non-wired style in dusty pink – it's perfect for mixing with black bottoms for a fun look. If you're wanting to cover up a little bit more, finish your set with a loose-fitting T-shirt.
Don't worry about packing the right shoes for hot yoga. Typically it's practiced barefoot, so expect to leave your trainers in your locker. However, if you'd prefer to still wear socks, make sure to pick ones with grippy soles, like Goodmove's black and white style, to ensure they don't hinder your workout.
What to bring to your hot yoga class
Accessorising is always fun, even when it comes to those essential for working out. So, what should you bring to your class? Most studios will provide you with a yoga mat or give you the option to hire one, but check beforehand in case you’re expected to bring your own. We love Sweaty Betty’s Balance mat in a fun pop of pink. It’s designed with markings to help guide your footwork and keep your stance even.
You’ll be extra sweaty from the heat, so don’t forget to pack a water bottle that you can also refill after class. Why not place it in a technical tote bag alongside your hair accessories (to keep hair away from your face) and a towel for showering.
