The countrywear edit
Shift into autumn with heritage-inspired layers for town, country and everywhere in between. Tweed is a time-honoured essential in the modern gentleman’s wardrobe, taking form in everything from tailored suits to elevated accessories.
Inspired by this trending look, style influencer, Herry Seller (@harry__sellers) embraces modern countrywear with his picks for light autumn layering. Recreate his refined look with our styling tips for wearing tweed, whether it’s a three-piece suit or a structured jacket.
Callum Briggs, head of menswear design at M&S, says, “One of the great things about tweed is its versatility. It’s a fabric that can make a real statement worn as a full suit, but it’s just as effective when styled as separates.”
This season’s tweed tailoring trend
Tweed is taking menswear by storm this autumn, with preppy, country looks stepping into centre stage. Refined for every rendezvous, an impeccably cut tweed suit does all the talking when it comes to power dressing.
Get the look with this three-piece tailored fit tweed suit, crafted with Italian wool-rich yarn for a premium look and feel. Choose from a cool, stone colour for a neutral look or embrace colour with soft, sage green.
“Tweed is a fabric that offers plenty of choice when it comes to colour. While many people associate it with traditional earthy tones, there’s now a huge range available, from rich browns and warm neutrals to dark evergreens and deep navies,” says Callum.
How to style a tweed jacket
The timeless appeal of tweed is down to its versatility. “Tweed can be worn throughout the year, as it comes in a range of weights. Heavier styles are perfect for colder weather, while lighter-weight options work brilliantly for everyday dressing and transitional seasons,” says Callum.
Mark the moment at formal occasions with a three-piece tweed suit, making a statement from head to toe. Style with a pair of leather penny loafers and a herringbone flat cap for a polished finish.
For casual countryside walks and laid-back weekends, team a tweed jacket with relaxed fit jeans and a pair of lace-up boots. Beat the autumn chill with a textured lambswool jumper or layer under a weather-proof wax jacket.
Styling tweed with M&S
Tweed is an essential part of classic countrywear – where quiet luxury meets rural heritage. While trending this autumn, it’s sure to return to your wardrobe season after season due to its generational appeal.
“Its ability to combine practicality and timeless style is what makes tweed such a valuable addition to the modern wardrobe. With M&S’s tweed suit offering almost doubling this autumn, it’s a style and fabric that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon,” says Callum.
