While your top half is swaddled in chunky knits and scarves during the winter, it’s time to let your bottom half do the talking, courtesy of an eye-catching skirt. We love this green slip skirt, which would look just as great with a black camisole for a Christmas party as it does with this cream cashmere knit. Polka dots aren’t going anywhere for 2020, and a skirt is an easy way to wear the look. For a top stylist’s tip, pop a bright, patterned roll neck beneath your plain jumper, adding a splash of colour at the neck.
The festive period might be all about cosy Fair Isle knits and reindeer-print pyjamas, but that doesn’t mean you can’t buy a few pieces to wear now that will also tap into the new year’s trends. Spring will bring a cleaner, more graphic refresh to our pattern preferences, with abstract florals and spots taking the sartorial lead. This green and white floral print, above, is particularly enticing, offering a modern way to wear your blooms. Choose between a dress, blouse or skirt. Team prints with bold basics, from the ever-useful trench coat to a beautiful belt.
Even when you’re wrapped up against the chill, there are still plenty of ways you can add interest to your outfits this season. Look for knitwear with unusual details such as the criss-cross yarn on this green jumper, or layer a knitted hoodie under a more formal blazer for a cool high/low mix. Accessories can also play a part, whether you give this season’s hat trend, the baker boy, a whirl or stick to eye-catching black ankle boots.
