We have quite a bit of furniture in the Sonoma range - and we love it!! It's strong and sturdy and looks good - except the chairs!! I am finding them a little heavy now and we are only 2 at home now so was looking to replace them. Looking on here and then read the reviews - thought we were the only ones whose seat pads were flaking! They are really bad and we were thinking of having the pads recovered but I think I would rather just replace the whole chair in view of how unwieldy they have become at my age. Looking at the price on here at £329 for 2 I don't think I will be doing that so back to the drawing board. Out of 7 chairs (one kept in loft for Xmas!) I think there is only 1 chair which has not flaked/cracked. Really poor and not what you'd expect from Marks and Spencer. So don't buy - not worth it!

Flaking leather
No, I don't recommend this
We have had our Sonama dining suite, with maching sideboard, a few years but are very disappointed that we are now, like many other reviewers, experiencing the leather flaking off from the seat pads. We are having to constantly clear up the mess from the floor, or our clothes, and feel if the leather is a good quality this should not happen. Of the six dining chairs we have, two are particularly bad. Can Marks & Spencer do anything to sort this problem out and help please?

Bought 6 Sonoma chairs.One has wrinkled leather seating section and another with similar but minor defect. The other 4 are fine. Faults reported and now await inspection and outcome

Quality has changed...

Really upset that the Sonoma dining chairs have changed in style and quality. They used to be (up until Spring/Summer '17) a far superior product, with 4 back slats as opposed to the now 3 back slats, and the chair was heavier, chunkier, and looked/felt a much better quality. After seeing this new style on display in-store, I will not be purchasing these chairs for my new home, as I've been looking at and buying better quality Sonoma from M&S for years. Really, really disappointed. Bring back the higher quality 4 slat design please M&S!

My wife and I like the style of the Sonoma dining room furniture and purchased these chairs, together with a table and a sideboard. I have rated this item 1 for both Quality and Value for Money, as there is no option to rate it 0. I would definitely not recommend it to a friend. My rating is based on a combination of issues, which unfortunately M&S are unable to publish. Whilst the four chairs that we eventually kept are not fault-free, the faults on the sixteen chairs that we rejected are too numerous to mention. However, they include cracked/split veneer, poor quality joint details, uneven colour variation, cracks in end-grain, patchy lacquer/covering issues, faults on leather and various chips and dents. All in all a totally unsatisfactory purchase, which sadly has taken the pleasure out of our new furniture.

Problems problems

These chairs are very attractive to the eye, but that seems to be were the joy ends. Firstly the seat pads continuously creak when sitting on them due to a lack of support and secondly even after a very short period of ownership/use the pads are showing early signs of cracking indicating a very poor quality of leather. All in all not the standard I would expect of M & S.

These chairs are stylish and comfortable, and at first we thought we had a great buy. However recently the leather on the chairs has started to flake off to the extent that we've have to vacuum up every day, and they do not look pleasant. My only option now is to replace them. Therefore, considering the price, I do not consider them good value for money and would not recommend them to a friend.

I didn’t realise that the sonoma chairs had changed in style and colour . They seem to be more of a greyish shade of oak, rather than golden as before. There were care instructions enclosed to say that furniture polish can’t be used on these chairs and that heat and sunlight will crack the leather - they don’t seem to be a very hard wearing product. This was disappointing. Delivery service was really good.
