Types of Chocolate: The Ultimate Guide

Types of chocolate
Not all chocolate is created equal. Whether you're looking for a decadent dark chocolate to bake with, fancy a fruity snack, or eager to try something new, we've got a type of chocolate to suit every taste at M&S.
When selecting chocolate, check the ingredients list to ensure cocoa is the main component and consider the cocoa percentage. Higher percentages, like our Collection 75% Ecuadorian Dark Chocolate, deliver a more intense, less sweet flavour, perfect for indulgent bakes like gooey puddings and cookies. Sweeter, lower percentage chocolates, like our Collection 46% Dominican Republic Milk Chocolate, with its caramelised notes, are great on their own or melted over ice cream. It’s also important to consider how the cocoa is sourced. Since 2016, we’ve committed to sourcing all the cocoa in our own-brand products through recognised certifications like Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance. This ensures that our chocolate not only tastes good but does good too.
