Designing a nursery you'll both love

While you might be tempted to leave decorating baby’s space once they’re here, the design team say it’s better to finish it before they’re here – the sooner the better to get rid of any paint fumes. You can always add finishing touches later once baby is here you’ve got to know them a little. 

Warm neutrals make a nursery feel cosy and inviting and you can banish any hint of bland by layering neutrals together, then adding subtle pops of colour and texture with blankets, wall hangings, prints, rugs, cushions, curtains and a cot mobile.

By starting with a neutral colour base then adding layers of colour through décor and furniture, you create longevity in the design. As your child grows you won’t need to paint it again, simply switch out the accessories.

Then let your little ones put their own stamp on their room as they grow and form their own tastes. 

Babies may be tiny, but their belongings sure aren't. With clothes, toys and nappies piling up, smart nursery storage solutions are essential. Think about adding storage where you need it most. Put shelves above the changing station means you can keep everything you need close by, but most importantly, out of reach of tiny hands.  

When it comes to nursing chairs, if you’re unsure whether you’ll get much use out of one, buy one that you love the design of. Look for stylish fabrics, design features, styles and shapes that look more ‘grown-up’ and will translate well from one room to another. That way if you don’t end up keeping it in the nursery, you’ll have a chair you love for years.
