Very disappointed with quality saw the dress in Saturday telegraph loved style but dreadful material and .

A dress. With sleeves!
No, I don't recommend this
What joy. Sadly as other reviews have noted, sizing is on the large size youth the sleeves are tight. After washing the zip was crooked, so I don't think it will last long. Style over substance and poor quality control.

retro dress

love retro style dresses! yes it does come up quite big, so if you are small for your size probably go down eg. I'm size 14-16 and the 14 fitted perfectly.

inconsistent sizing
No, I don't recommend this
loved the style and colour but dress too big; size 10 was more a generous 12. Despite being too big, the sleeves were tight, the right sleeve tighter than the left - a problem I have experienced with M&S before and this stopped me ordering a smaller size.

Odd shape, doesn't wash well
Yes, I recommend this
The first time I wore this dress I loved it. The arms are a little tight considering the rest of the dress is quite fluid over the body, which can be rather uncomfortable. The cap sleeves feel disproportionate to the rest of the dress. It does not wash well. After a first wash some of the seams had started to loosen and after the second the zip went strange, which led to difficulty straightening the garment out. I'm not sure how long it will last. Very disappointed. I'd loved this dress.

Too tight and in a horrid slippy slidy fabric, this dress was a big disappointment. I shall be taking it back.

A lovely flattering retro design
Yes, I recommend this
It is true the material in man made and the dress does crease, however the design is really flattering especially for those with a fuller bust and figure. I would love to buy the dress in other colours and materials.

Nice dress, shame about the fabric!
No, I don't recommend this
I was really looking forward to this dress arriving, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. The fabric was awful, so cheap and clearly man-made. It went straight back in its packaging and back to M&S. I was too worried about catching fire the minute I walked out into the sunshine!

The red dress
No, I don't recommend this
Lovely red dress in a super pattern but when it arrived the fabric was more like that of a nightdress ! Following previous reviews I ordered a size 10 which fitted fine everywhere apart from the armholes which were very small and I definitely do not have large arms. Unfortunately decided to send the dress back. Would have been willing to pay a little more if the fabric and cut were of better quality.

Badly cut!
No, I don't recommend this
This dress fits true to size in body. However position of sleeves makes it completely unwearable as it is not actually possible to move your arms! It would be fine if you are or going to move all day......shame, as it's a nice dress.....

Loved the colours and pattern of the dress. Found the fit small across the shoulders. I didn't like material of dress, didn't feel comfortable.

I saw this dress in a local store, but did not have time to stop and buy so ordered online. Although I shall keep this dress I am doing so for all the wrong reasons, mostly nostalgic. I cannot rate this dress more than 'Good' due to the fabric choice of 100% viscose which creases almost as you look at it, and this was very apparent when I removed it from its bag. The pattern print is lovely and my dress has very good pattern match. At 5'6" tall this dress sits on my calf, and flows very well from the bodice which sits above the natural waistline. I have taken a size 12 which is very roomy - I could eat a 4 course lunch and it would never show! I would have gone down a size, but for the sleeves, which would have benefitted from being an inch longer and wider. If you exercise and have muscles be warned. I would also advise that you check your seams as they part very easily. A good looking dress, I feel more thought and care could have gone into the fit.

I received this dress and although quite happy with it, I must admit that M&S's quality is a bit wanting. The neckline is just machined not faced in any manner, the hem is a little uneven and the sleeves again are finished with machine stitch that shows, is not blind hemmed, as it should be. I am a dress-maker and tend to notice these things more so than others. However, it will be a nice day-time summer dress. I am 12 to 14 size and this is a 12 and fits me with room to spare, probably could have gone with a size 10, but will keep it. Hope this helps.

Lovely dress
Yes, I recommend this
I loved this dress, but because i am quite short it was too long for me and, because of my age, made me look a bit matronly. But if I was younger it would have looked great. I love the designs that Alexa Chung has come up with, and the prints are lovely - bold, bright and beautiful, so lets have more Alexa Chung that will suit someone older but who still wants to look contemporary.

Disappointing

This dress was a strange cut - very low V neck and high waisted. I thought the fabric was rather cheap looking and although the pattern was lovely, everything else was disappointing

Terrible fabric
No, I don't recommend this
This is a major disappointment. The print on the fabric is so basic and the fabric is horrid. Cheap and nasty. Like wearing a carrier bag. I had hoped for much better from this collaboration. If M&S doesn't sort out the quality of its fabric I won't be buying anything again.

Lovely if style fits your body shape.

Bright lightweight summer dress with lovely colour and pattern. A long petticoat helps the overall look but it will still look fine without if the weather is warm enough. I am taking mine to the South of France. I am 5ft 6 ins size 14-16 and would have liked it a bit longer. Maybe have short ,medium and long lengths for future designs please. Well done Alexa for influencing M&S away from frump into wearable stylish clothes.

This is a very pretty dress, ideal for a summer wedding. Sadly, it swamped me, far too long and quite big in the bust area (I am 5'3"). Why can't we have more petite sizes please?
