Race day style: What is the men’s dress code?
While race day dress codes have generally become more relaxed, it's still wise to confirm the specifics before you head to the track.
Prestigious events like Royal Ascot or the Epsom Derby maintain tradition, particularly in certain enclosures where formal dress, such as morning suits with top hats, waistcoats and tails, may be required.
On the whole though, if you’re looking for horse racing suit ideas, think about what you’d wear as a wedding guest. A well-chosen suit or blazer and trousers combination will be your ticket to most racecourses. Pair either with a formal shirt, tie and smart shoes, and you'll meet the dress code for virtually any race day venue.

Men’s race-day outfit ideas
Embrace the warmer weather at race days in the spring and summer months, such as Royal Ascot, with lighter, brighter hues. A cream suit can be a stylish statement, but if that feels too daring (or you're prone to spills!), incorporate colour with a pastel pink shirt instead.
Race events during the cooler months, such as the Cheltenham Festival, call for cosy tweed and wool suiting. When planning men's outfits for horse races at that time of year, you may also wish to bring a sturdy overcoat. It’s always better to have additional layers to hand then feel cold, especially when a long trudge to the carpark is involved.
If you’re not sure where to begin when it comes to buying a suit, or it’s been a while since you last wore one, book an in-store fitting ideal for individuals or groups.

Essential accessories for race day
You can't go wrong with a timeless suit, but it's the accessories that truly make the outfit. While a tie or bow tie might not always be necessary, it's wise to confirm the dress code beforehand, as some establishments may require one.
For events like the Grand National, don't be afraid to embrace colour. The Jockey Club has even recognized it as a "spectacle of colour," so consider a bright tie or pocket square to stand out from the crowd.
Cufflinks, if your shirt allows, are the perfect finishing touch for all men's race day outfits. These small details can add a touch of personality – opt for classic silver or gold for timeless elegance.
And remember, whatever you do, don't leave your socks at home – bare ankles can be a faux pas at certain courses.
