Very tight

Compared to the previous version 8 I had, it was both shorter in length and much tighter, especially at the top - despite ordering a half size larger, I had to return it. Even the wide version was tight!!

This is my sixth pair of XA PRO 3D GoreTex trail running shoes. I started with the first series but missed out on the third to fifth series offerings… primarily because I couldn’t wear out the first and second series!! I do miss those bright green Series 2 shoes… they were almost indestructible!! It’s clear, however, that Salomon have continued to develop this shoe as their flagship design throughout its lifespan… and long live that life. These continue to be the best trail shoes on the market, despite some annoying little changes here and there that take a little getting use to! Despite anything you read elsewhere, these shoes are definitely on the tighter end of the fit spectrum. I always order a half size up. Even so, the V9 seems a tad snugger across the entry point, and it appears as though the lacing system is slightly shorter. It’s not a major problem, but they require more manipulation to put on. The upside is that they are a very close fit when running. The heel unit seems more supportive on the V9 compared to the V8, and the slightly smaller toe front unit is a little comfier (I think) but it is hard to say. I read complaints about the construction of the inner heel lining and whilst I have concerns about this with other Salomon shoes (running and walking) both my V8 pairs have not suffered in this respect. It is surprising as they seem extremely similar if not the same. Overall, I would welcome a return to some option of the brighter colourways but you cannot argue with the truly awesome design of this shoe and the commitment of Salomon to tweak and improve it year on year. The lacing system is unsurpassed. I had doubts on my first pair but now I won’t buy any other system. GoreTex is truly the best, and although soles do wear slightly on the quick side I wouldn’t say it was unacceptable for the grip and feel of the overall shoe. I will continue to buy these as long as Salomon made them!

Super Well-Constructed

I walk my hunting dog 4 miles every morning. Half is on paved sidewalks, half in a park with trails, wet grass, mud, and decomposed granite. It's a great walking shoe for paved paths, but also super stable and dry in the park. It is certainly not traditional hunting footwear, but they are super stable, and I plan on using these to hunt quail in the fall.

very weak delicate top

Their strength decreases from the bottom to the top. The rubberized toe is hyper durable, I think it can be made twice as thin. In my case, the upper fabric tore. As I understood, when bending the boot, the glued part pulls the fabric outward and tears it. I specifically chose these boots because visually they looked very durable and reliable. So I was a little surprised to see this. I had no problems with them in the rain - my feet stayed dry, there is a feeling of dampness on wet grass, but I can't say for sure, because I was walking when holes appeared, and my feet were already sweaty. In any case, they almost do not evaporate moisture and are hot.

4th pair however already showing signs

I love this shoe and lace up style. On my 4th pair, great colour choices and brand including 2 year warranty. However have noticed already, (weeks) the repetitive problem of the lace wearing the material of the main shoe where the lace fixes to the top anchor. This has occurred in previous pair however not as quickly. Probably a design issue and maybe a small piece of protective material simply applied under the anchor eyelet could resolve the design issue. Just a thought!

Disappointing quality

I bought a pair in early March 2025 and since then walked ~300km in them, mostly urban terrain. Already two strap holders (not sure whether this is the correct term) are torn and soon I’ll lose about two more. No idea why. I never excessively tighten the straps, and even if, I’d expect them to be more durable. The problem is these strap holders can’t be repaired, so the shoes eventually become useless. I was expecting better quality from Salomon.

The Salomon XA PRO 3D V9 GORE-TEX shoes are top-tier for hiking and trail running. Great fit, excellent grip, and totally waterproof — they’ve handled rain, rocks, and mud with no problem. The Quicklace system is super convenient, and they feel stable and supportive on any terrain. Durable and dependable. Highly recommend!

I purchased these shoes to work outside in various conditions and terrains. I walk and average of 18,000 steps a day. I’ve walked in the rain, through the mud, and through wet grass and have yet to have gotten my feet wet.

I have worn Salomon shoes for over 10 years and these are the pinnacle of their development. I bought an extra pair in a non goretex funky colour Brilliant experience. I must mention the amazing team at covent garden/ Long acre.. Absolutely joyous experience... They are all great , but Marta helped me directly. Her knowledge and recommendations really helped it become a brilliant interaction.

Necessity for daily physical activities

This shoe is great in the gym and on walks or hikes. The fast lacing system is so good, I don't want a shoe without it. With the gore tex, it makes these shoes easy to clean. Just wash them off and as long as you don't saturate the inside of the shoe you can wear them immediately. Hold the shoe upside down and run water over the sole, allowing it to run over the sides. Possibly use a brush and a light hand soap. Towel dry and you are good to go. The V9 does run a bit narrow in the toe area than the older V7 so I ordered one half size up and the fit is better. I may go one full size up next time. Also, I haven't tried the wide version, so maybe that would be a better option.

Excellent shoe! Is it a trainer for the gymn, or a casual for around town, or even a trail shoe? Truth is, it's all of the above and more, given the smart black colour, makes them work-wear friendly, and the tread is excellent, so a proper all-rounder! I may have, (at last) found my 'perfect' all round trail shoe! The gortex option works well for me, without being overly sweaty as other brands I have owned can be, if anything, these are the best all-round trainers I have ever owned, (and I have owned a fair few... including many of Salomon's!)

Love the style and colour combinations. However the xa9 pro is definitely not fit for hiking. After 5 months, I have a large cut in one of the heels. Sent back under warranty to be told it us a wear and tear issue. 5 months!

Bought these for work and couldn't be happier! Fit and support is fantastic. I'm on my feet outside for up to 10hrs. End of day my feet feel great. Traction is good and the Gore -tex is a bonus!
