Why aren't all shoes wide like this?

I have spent £300.00+ on similar Loafers and they were awfully uncomfortable. These, on the contrary, are very good. First of all, they do not fall off when I walk ( a common problem) and, because they are wide fit, I do not feel like I am in a straight jacket after 10 minutes. I suppose the wide fit allowed me to buy a smaller size which then meant the length was better matched to my foot. I've always tend to buy a bigger size to avoid squashing my feet across the width.
