Clinique's #1 makeup remover is a silky balm formula that gently dissolves makeup. Now with detoxifying Japanese charcoal, this lightweight cleansing balm is suitable for Dry Combination, Combination Oily and Oily skin types. This charcoal cleansing makeup remover quickly dissolves tenacious eye and face makeup and sunscreen. Japanese charcoal acts as a purifying ingredient that deeply cleanses, detoxifies and unclogs pores, helping clear dirt, oil and other impurities. Safflower seed oil works efficiently to help break up natural oil found on skin, as well as dissolving hard-to-remove makeup. Rich in linoleic acid, this natural emollient helps leave skin feeling soft and nourished. The solid balm transforms into a silky oil upon application and rinses off completely without leaving an oily or greasy residue. To apply, massage balm over dry skin, rinse well with warm water and pat dry. The formula is: non-acnegenic; non-greasy; non-drying; non-stripping; fragrance-free; allergy-tested; ophthalmologist-tested and dermatologist-tested.

Stick to the traditional one !

Take the day off is the best cleansing balm ever - and I've tried them, all but stuck to this over the years. So when I saw the charcoal one I thought I'd give it a go. It's awful ! The black goo gets in your hair and it's really hard to get off your face. It ruined my make - up remover cloths. I binned it in the end

Bought by mistake!

I bought this for my holiday but on arriving opened it up to see it was black, So anyway I tried it didn't like it at all face was black hands were black cleansing cloth was black it went under my nails won't by again. So next day on holiday I had to go and by some of the clear balm. Should make container different from the other balm as I think a lot of buyers will pick it up by mistake.

Been a user of the original balm ( love it to) for years but decided to swap to this and OMG i love it! Absolutely perfect for my oily skin, its very strange to start with a black balm , yes i agree. Now i use grey washcloths to remove it as i think if you use whites it can stain, dont fund it doesn't makes a big mess as i read some reviews saying, Highly recommend this balm for oilier skin-types

Started using this as oil free miscellar cleanser discontinued. It is easy to use and melts on your skin, all makeup and SPF removed , it is not drying at all. I use with the little Clinique cloths which wash clean. Considering I have rosacea and am sensitive there is no reaction at all just nice smooth skin. Thank you

Not as good as the original

I've used the original version of this for years and it's been great - so easy to remove all of my makeup. This one is not good for removing makeup - I have to leave it on for so long and rub so much and even after that I have panda eyes straight away. My eyes also itch - not sure whether that's the product or the fact that my makeup isn't being washed away completely. It's super difficult to wash off completely. Really disappointed that I have a lot of the jar left, especially as it's not cheap.

I had a sample sized pot for some time and when I ran out of my usual cleaner I went to my drawer of Clinique goodies and dug this out. Quite a surprise with the texture at first but quickly realised that it does indeed turn to a soft balm as I massaged onto skin. I love this product as it is so lovely to use I now massage my face as part of my night routine and both my skin and my stress levels have improved. Thank you Clinique for a great gift.

Clear cleansing balm is better

I have very oily skin. I'd been using the clear cleansing balm but the charcoal version came out, so opted for that. It didn't really make any difference to my skin in terms of controlling oil. I find it hard to wash off. If it gets on your clothes or towels it stains (but does wash out) and leave stains on the sink which is a pain to wash down. I'll only buy the clear version in the future.

I had my doubts about this, so black and gloopy, but stuck with it and now, after just a few weeks of use, it has made a huge difference to my skin which now looks much fresher and clearer than before. Excellent results!

I bought this by mistake because I thought it was the original! However after using only once I noticed a huge difference in my clogged pores. I've tried so many different products and this is the only one that's cleansed them properly and made my skin look clear. Again this is only after one use so can't wait for the results after I've used it for a whole!

I didn't like this... I got a sample tub and gave it a whirl, but I would not spend money on this. I don't like the "balm" nature of the product; I much prefer Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish lotion texturally. It takes some effort to pick up enough product to wash your face, without digging into it. I didn't like the smell. The charcoal comes through in an unpleasant way. That said, I'm giving it 3 stars because it did do an indisputably fantastic job melting my make up. My skin didn't feel particularly moisturised afterwards - but that's not super surprising for an oily skin product... Will eventually finish my sample. But not one I'd recommend...

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear you didn't love the texture of the product but did love that it cleansed your skin so well! We do have the original Take the Day Off Balm which has a softer balm texture which you may prefer. You can view this on the following link: https://www.clinique.co.uk/product/1673/6424/skin-care/cleansers-makeup-removers/take-the-day-offtm-cleansing-balm?size=30ml

Being a big fan of the existing cleansing balm, I decided to try the charcoal one when it was released. I've been very disappointed with it and wouldn't purchase it again. I'll revert to the normal one. I just don't find it as effective as the original one.

Thank you for your feedback Ely and we are sorry to hear you are disappointed with your purchase. This particular cleanser will suit a dry combination to oily skin, however the ingredients with in this cleanser are beneficial to helping to remove excess oil and detoxify too.
