Down stays in place making the quilt low maintenance. I allowed 24hrs for the quilt to come to life, but it didn't need this long. I didn't notice any smell when i first unpacked the quilt. There is a bit of a crackling noise when you move the quilt, e.g. when you get in to bed, but i didn't find this a problem. The quilt is a perfect balance between being lightweight and making me feel i have a cover over me.

We bought this quilt hoping that it would be a good investment, as the last one from one M&S's upmarket competitors was awful. So far, two weeks in it feels very comforting. It’s light (but not too light, I do like a bit of weight) and stays put on the bed. Some of the reviews commented on the crackly fabric, but I haven’t noticed this at all. My only gripe is that there was no sample of this quilt to feel before we bought so it did feel a bit of a risk. They explained that they couldn’t open it, even in store, for me to investigate the "crackly fabric"; this seems an oversight as this is no small investment and we almost walked away. However, I’m glad we didn’t as it is suiting us very well.
