I loved my new Hyperion Max 4 shoes. They make long runs much easier. My only recommendation is to go one size bigger than your normal size, but other than that, I love them.

Too small, not an improvement over Max 2

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Disappointed in this one. The size is smaller than normal Brooks 8.5 road shoes, so they don’t fit properly. I feel they are not as comfortable and responsive as their predecessors.

Luv2run

I've only worn these shoes twice. They are comfortable and I did not find any problems with them. The first time I wore them was on the track for speed work. They felt a little like a clodhopper and not as fast as I hoped. I wore them on the trail I frequently run today. They felt great, bouncy and FAST. I think I'm going to really like these shoes.

Not for Pronators

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have feet that mildly pronate and these shoes just did not give enough support. I felt the inside of my foot was slipping off rocker plate. After a few runs and family walks I started having actual pain in my PT tendons. I've been happy with Glycerin Maxes and decided to try a new style. This one unfortunately did not work out.

Good fit

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Comfortable fit. I miss the loop on the backside to help slide foot into shoe.. the tongue slides under shoe laces, so mid-run you need to adjust it. No discomfort in stride/strike, but some minor adjustments to those details would be nice.

For narrow flat feet

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Narrow toe box. No wide option. Fits smaller than true to size. Not for high arches - causes toe jam. Snappy return and faster run but when your feed expand/ swell in shoe it causes friction and pain. Returning.

🙈🙈🙈

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Why?? 🙈 Why would you take your one shoe that was perfect, the Hyperion Max 3, the one that made your feet feel and look more narrow, like they would never hit each other when youre running and fatigue starts to set in (10 - 12 miles a day, every day), it had a nice cushy bounce and an awesome top that wrapped like a sock around your foot and locked your foot down so your heel never moved, the tongue was built in so it didnt move, and it had a loop in the back to pull them on..... and turn it into this? The Hyperion Max 4. Which just feels like a glycerine shoe now. It feels bulky and wide, the tongue moves and .... there is no loop to pull them on. You even took that away. The pull on loop. Why? It feels slightly softer. By the toes. The fabric on top is slightly softer. That's the positive. The colors are not good. None of them are running girl colors. I dont get it. These just feel like all your other shoes. Bulky, spongy and wide. You already have a bunch of those. Yes, compared to other brands, Im sure they are awesome. But compared to Hyperion Max 3, they are a downgrade. You took away the things that made it great and put in things that make it blend in with glycerines. They feel shorter and wider. Its like when you put on a pair of pants and they make you feel chunky? Hyperion Max 4's do that to your feet. They dont make you feel good. Its something about the way they wrap around your ankle and the outside ball of your foot. They are puffy and cumbersome feeling. It toes- off more aggressively than the Max 3. And the rocker plate feels less stiff. Please make the Hyperion Max 3 with this rocker plate, possibly the more curved toe off, and the slightly softer material by the toes. And better colors. Like the orange, and the pink and blue you used to have. Then it would be an improvement worth another iteration. Pretty please with sugar on top. Ok, pretty please with collagen protein on top. :)

Good for tempo runs

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Good choice for tempo days. I wanted a snappy, propulsive shoe for tempo runs and some speed work during marathon training. I would not recommend for a long run- I accidentally packed these for a long run at the end of a high volume week, and the balls of my feet ached the next day.

Great shoe but a little too narrow

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I believe this sneaker is a great lightweigth sneaker. Its very good, sadly I am returnign it because its too narrow for my feet. My feet sweeles and it starts squeezing my toes even if i lossen the laces. Over all its a great shoe, the onlt reason for the 4 satrs is because it is not wide enoght for my feet . i wear medium in all my shoes .

Lacks propulsion

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

My first run in these were on the 4th of July...after a huge rain storm and Iowa heatwave. They ran hot and heavier than what I am used to. The 2nd time I ran in them, I was back in MA and in heat dome. Still heavy and less rocker motion/propelling than my Mach X2 Hoka's, that I loved:light, propulsive, and speed. Feel like these take time to build up speed and leave the heaviness behind. They are good in the heel, forcing me to stay out my heel strike, but the misstep is hard to find, and the front rock is dull to push off. No give or that sensation to want to keep moving, like the Hoka. The snugness around tongue is great. but again, it's heavier and hotter and narrower in the toe box. Has a stiff stability groove in back outer heel, that keeps forcing me inward. I am not into that feeling. I want to like this shoe and will keep giving it a change, still early? Run 6x in them.

Sizing off, tongue bunches up

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] They run larger than the previous versions. It is pretty annoying to me when the feel/sizing changes from previous versions. The laces also feel different and the tounge is easier to get bunched up and give pressure points on the top of the foot.

Sturdy & stylish

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far, I love the Hyperion Max 4! I fell in love with the Hyperion Max 3, so I was anxiously waiting for the 4 to drop and they do not disappoint. First, I love the color way and think that the pictures do not do it justice. They are so cool in person. Overall design-wise, I love the lace up on this shoe & the support compared to the 3. This shoe definitely feels more sturdy than the 3. I highly recommend this shoe!

My new go-to

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been team Hyperion for years now and the Max 4’s did not disappoint. A nice comfortable ride that kept my legs fresh. Feels a little bouncier than the 3’s which had been my favorite to date. These knock them down to second place. Perfect shoe for a long run or speed work.

Perfect

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

Thank you so much for changing the tongue back, and the collar. I had to change shoes because the last model gave me blisters and rubbed my ankles raw. I preordered as soon as I saw you changed it back. They fit perfect and I am so happy🥰

Building up mileage after acl surgery

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Coming back from ACL surgery changes how I evaluate every piece of gear. Mileage increases that felt routine before surgery now carry real stakes. The Hyperion Max 4 is genuinely light. Not light in the way every shoe claims to be, but light in a way you feel the second you put it on. On tempo runs the heel-to-toe transition is clean and doesn’t pull my attention, which is exactly what I want from my shoes. The energy return is consistent. The plate and rocker keep me moving forward without forcing a particular stride pattern. It works with me rather than dictating to me which has been ideal in my runs. For ACL recovery, the combination of cushioning and plate geometry noticeably reduces the load I feel at the knee during push-off. As my mileage climbed each week this shoe absorbed variability that a stiffer platform would have sent straight to a joint still rebuilding tolerance. The underfoot protection held up well into longer efforts without that compressed, dead feeling I typically get at the 40 minutes mark of my runs. For workouts, tempos, and a controlled mileage build, it earns its place in my rotation. For recovery running specifically, it’s been the right tool for me.
