About this bottle: Romania has only recently re-appeared on the world wine stage despite having a long history of winemaking. Cramele Recas, Romania’s 3rd largest winery, was founded in 1447, with its fortunes revived 20 years ago by Englishman Philip Cox and his Romanian wife Elvira. Championing local grapes over international varieties, it has become the specialist for Fetească Regala or Royal Princess as it translates, a fitting name for a fresh aromatic crisp white grape scented with white peaches, roses and spring blossom. Sourcing from the Recas region where the winery is base and Vrancea the country’s best-known wine region. International wine making team Australian Hartley Smithers and Spanish Nora Iriate craft this wine exclusively for M&S. Best enjoyed chilled within 2 years of purchase.

Found Pinot Blanc

Light, fragrant and unoaked, this Pinot Blanc offers notes of peaches and pears. Try it with seafood or poultry dishes.

About this bottle: Less well known than its famous relatives, this ancient white variety, Pinot Blanc or Weissburgunder, nevertheless produces stunning wines. It is a rare, but versatile grape, even in its native home in Germany, matching with many foods. Winemaker Gerd Stepp, who produces this example exclusively for MandS, recommends drinking it with pan seared river trout and white asparagus. Best enjoyed chilled within 2 years of purchase.

Found Furmint

Vintage: 2021

An aromatic and floral unoaked white wine with flavours of juicy pear, apple and citrus. Pairs well with seafood or vegetable tarts.

About this bottle: Furmint is grown almost exclusively in Hungary, first plantings being recorded in 16th century. More often famous for its sweet styles, the grape also produces wonderfully aromatic dry wines. This example is crafted by Chateau Dereszla exclusively for M&S in their fully modernised historic cellars, first mentioned in 1406. A perfect match for seafood, winemaker Bai István recommends pairing it local Halászlé, fisherman’s soup. Best enjoyed chilled within 2 years of purchase.
