Rule one: If you have soft or fine locks, prep with texturising cream or dry shampoo first to help the plaits hold. Rule two: If you have trouble starting a braid, gathering your hair into a ponytail first will make it easier to manipulate (just cut the tie off at the end and you’ll still have a secure braid). Rule three: Mind the size of your sections (no more than a half-inch from each side). Ready, steady… braid!
