The Frances Trench

Been after a good trench for years. Finally found it. Unbelievable quality, looks far more expensive. Unusual colour but looks brilliant on.

I loved this coat when I first saw it online a while ago and was devastated that it was sold out. Was thrilled to find it was available again and even better it coincided with the arrival of my 20% vouchers - it was obviously my lucky day. Have just collected it from my local branch and am delighted with it; the colour, fabric, fit, style - it is just perfect. More like this please M & S. (Could I just say a big thank you to those who have already reviewed this coat, I always read the reviews before ordering anything and, heeding their advice, I went down a size, which is just right.)

A very well-priced trench coat in a flattering shape and colour. Something about the slightly high waist and generous fit makes this a very comfortable and flattering fit for me, which is unusual, as I don't normally choose belted coats. I love the colour, fabric and weight of this and feel fab wearing it. So pleased I happened upon the Alexa Chung collection in my local store.

I've been looking for a cotton classic mac for ages, but I didn't want to pay designer label money ! This khaki coat is great: it's long enough for me at 5'71/2 although waist belt is a little high, it's also not too heavy on, which is another plus , as so many traditional raincoats are sooo uncomfortable. In natural strong cotton it's also not going to be too hot either. This mac is a real winner , and although I was a little unsure of buying khaki ( I'm a navy girl- always) , it's a refreshing change for me and I like it very much. I have worn it with the belt unfastened and I prefer it that way; it's very large but I just sized down and I prefer a looser cut , I also like the raglan style sleeves, as they're so much more flattering -and softer too, when you already have ' shoulders' ! this is one of the nicest coats i have ever bought love the color stile & quality you can ware this coat on so meany occasions dressed up or down looks classy with out being to over the top which makes it an all round very versatile audition to most wardrobes priced well

Love this coat as it is very stylish. Ordered both a 14 & a 16 as I fall between sizes. The 16 was very big on me so looked more Vera Stanhope than stylish casual! There was plenty of room in the 14 which is why I have rated it 'big'. The weight and quality of the material seem excellent.

Bought the size 10 and 12 thinking one would fit. The size 10 is far too big and I am in between 10 & 12 at the moment post baby. Of course, size 8 is now sold out. Returning both for a refund.

Just like all the other reviews I have to comment on the sizing which is plain massive. Not quite sure what this is about? I am a 12 on a good day, hitting a 14 following any carb fix. I have bought an 8 but considering searching for a 6. What is going on? I have two other items from the AC range and they are normal sizing. The alexa range is generally good news for M&S.... However given their well established client/ customer I am not sure who the mayority of the range is aimed at. The summer dresses in particular look more top shop than the 50 something M&S girl. The young spaghetti strap brigade don't usually shop here

I am a 14-16 and there were only size 14s left, but the fit is perfect. It is both practical and stylish, and won't go out of fashion. The quality is very good. On the description it said it had full length sleeves but I think they are 7/8 - ? Because it is lined it is also warmer than most raincoats. Its a classic. Ity is a really good length on me (I am 5'7) which means its long enough to cover a midi skirt. Khaki is a much better colour than navy. Good choice from M and S. I liked the alexa archive collection generally. Please do more of this.

I sized down two sizes and the fit was perfect. If you're really tall and slender, the oversized version may be perfect for you. But I am not, although I have small shoulders. So sizing down worked well. The quality is great and the material hangs beautifully. I am very pleased with it.

So I finally managed to order one in my size by constantly refreshing the website...the reviews aren't wrong. I'm a good size 14 and the coat was huge. I managed to really luckily get a return from out the back in a size 10 and to be honest it's still too big. I'm holding onto this with dear life, but I will keep an eye out for a size 8 to come into stock and will exchange. Other than that a good quality mac with a nice checked lining is very hard to find unless you want to spend thousands in designer brands. So well done M&S. Just order more stock and get some other colours. You are onto a winner.

I saw this in store and wanted it straight away (nothing to do with Alexa by the way) because it is just so traditionally elegant and stylish. I'm size 10 and although my store didn't have my size, it was clear from the stock that was there that the sizes were very generous indeed. After a few times of trying I was able to order online and opted for size 8 which is perfect and still has plenty of room. Incidentally, the belt is placed quite high on the waist and seems very flattering somehow. Too bad I won't get to wear it now until the weather gets cooler! Great quality fabric, great colour. Get one if you can find it.

This is a great coat. It is really well made and the material is great. Although the style is supposed to be oversized it is rather extreme! I am a size 12 normally so on the advice of the reviews grabbed a 10 online when it appeared in stock again! But it was absolutely massive and looked like bag on me! The 8 had sold out but I managed to get a 6 and that actually fits me really well. The waist is quite high but somehow it still works. Love the lining too. Had lots of compliments on it and works well for the office and as a casual look too.

I thought this would be an investment piece which would keep looking really good for a long time. However the sizing was way off track, I finally decided size 12 should be fine. It was huge. I was also disappointed with the quality of the fabric. It has now been returned to the store.
