Comfortable with no break in period. Should've added a half size for a bit more room but it works well.

Good but could be better
Originally posted on Merrell
3.5 ⭐️ is what I would give if I could. I bought them for a Nov trip to Ireland. Waterproof- absolutely! I had no problems there. They were comfortable out of the box, no blisters. They were good overall but could definitely could be better. I ordered a half size up because my normal size was too short. The length was good but they were loose fitting otherwise. They felt like wides even though they were regular. I wore thick socks and they were still loose. The laces came untied constantly. I felt confident on the wet stone because other reviews said they were great for traction. That was a mistake I slipped and fell on the first wet rock I stepped on.

fit perfectly right out of the box. Very stable shoe with lots of support. I feel confident with the traction the shoe provides .Been a Merrell user for several years- good quality and a reputable company. If there's a defect, they will make it right- replaced a shoe that was 8 months old. No problem.

Great On Rocky Terrain

I can’t believe how perfectly these fit right from the start. So very comfortable, support in all the right places, and the ties hold their grip. I got a good sale price or never would have been able to buy these awesome shoes. I have not tested these in very wet conditions, only morning dew. All is good.

Fails to Perform in Wet Conditions
Originally posted on Merrell
No, I don't recommend this
I had high hopes for the Merrell Moab 3 with Gore-Tex, given their legacy as a go-to boot for many hikers. While they offer decent comfort for casual use, my experience revealed significant, deal-breaking flaws in key performance areas, particularly when faced with challenging, wet terrain. The most significant failure is the waterproofing. Despite the Gore-Tex branding, which implies robust protection, these shoes are merely water-resistant. During a hike in a steady downpour, they held up for about 45 minutes before my socks were completely soaked. The sole's performance on wet rock is alarmingly poor. While hiking over damp stones and roots, the grip was practically non-existent, making for a treacherous and slippery experience akin to walking on ice. This lack of reliable traction is a major safety concern for anyone hiking in variable weather or on trails that aren't perfectly dry. On my very first hike, the mesh fabric on the upper sustained a small rip from a minor scrape against a rock. A shoe designed for the trail should be able to withstand this kind of incidental contact. This early failure raises serious questions about the long-term durability of the materials. Ironically for a shoe that lets water in so easily, it struggles to let heat out. In hot, dry conditions, my feet quickly became overheated and sweaty, indicating that the materials do not offer adequate ventilation for warm-weather hiking. I cannot recommend the Merrell Moab 3 for serious hikers or anyone who ventures out in less-than-perfect conditions. The failures in waterproofing, wet-surface traction, and durability make it an unreliable and potentially unsafe choice for its intended purpose. However, if your activities are limited to short, fair-weather walks on well-maintained, dry trails, the out-of-the-box comfort might be suitable for your needs. For anything more demanding, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere.

Love the shoes, but not the laces!
Originally posted on Merrell

I absolutely love the shoes, but the laces never stay tied! Even with a double knot, I am constantly re-tying them. I may need to purchase alternate laces. Sizing wise, they seem to run wide. I wish they were slightly narrower (the regular width) since they offer a wide width as well.

Sometimes the laces can become "slick" and can become untied. This will go away over time. You can try handwashing the laces to help speed this up. Remove them first and allow to air dry before relacing. We hope this helps.
Great all around hiking shoe

Love these shoes for moderate hiking on slick rock surfaces. The shoes are light for their durability level with excellent traction on slick rocks. They provide plenty of room in the toe box (I have narrow feet and generally go for a snugger shoe, but these are perfect while I am recovering from a pretty bad toenail situation). I have other boots that I will stick with for more serious hikes for their better toe protection from rocks, but these will be my every day hiking shoes for now.
