Up your breakfast game with this irresistible healthy idea from Emily English, AKA @Emthenutritionist. “The flavour of banoffee is one of my favourites,” says Emily. “This combination is a fibre-rich, energising and naturally sweet start to your day, with a wholegrain base, date caramel, fresh chunks of banana and creamy M&S high protein vanilla yogurt.” The recipe makes six portions of the date caramel – keep in the fridge to use the next day, mixing up the fruit toppings, if you like.

step 1
Crumble the M&S wholewheat bisks (2)  into a serving container or bowl. Pour the milk (100 ml) over the bisks and press down to form the base.
step 2
Pour boiling water over the M&S pitted dates (200 g) and sprinkle over the bicarbonate of soda (1/2 tsp). Allow to sit for 5 minutes. Drain and blend with the vanilla extract (1 tsp), banana (1/2)  and a pinch of salt. Loosen with a little warm water, adding a spoonful at a time to form a smooth ‘caramel’ that has the consistency of a thick set of honey.
step 3
Spread 1 heaped tbsp of the date caramel over the bisks, top with slices of banana (1) and finish with the M&S High Protein vanilla yogurt (1 pot). Dust over a little cocoa powder (as needed) and enjoy immediately or store for up to two days.
