What are potatoes?

Spuds, tatties… whatever you call them, potatoes are one of the nation’s favourite root veggies. Potatoes originated in South America and have been cultivated for thousands of years.

There are a variety of flavours, sizes and textures to try, suited to different cooking techniques. Smaller new potatoes, like those seasonal gems, Jersey Royals, are delicious in summery salads, while larger, fluffier Maris Pipers and King Edwards make the best roasties and mash.
