How to make homemade smoothies in six steps
Choose your fruit and veggies. Both fresh or frozen fruit work well – try blueberries, banana, raspberries and mango. Add extra veggies by throwing in frozen spinach, frozen avocado or fresh kale.
Add to a blender.
Add your liquid. This could be milk (dairy or plant-based), fresh fruit juice, yogurt, water, a squeeze of citrus juice, kefir, or a combination.
Add some extras. Try a dollop of nut butter for protein and flavour, a scoop of chia seeds for plant diversity, or a handful of oats for slow-release carbohydrates and to bulk out your smoothie, or a drizzle of maple syrup for sweetness.
Blitz until smooth.
Taste. Check you’re happy with the seasoning and consistency, adjusting your ingredients as you go.

Your homemade smoothie questions, answered
How do you make a smoothie with frozen fruit?
Frozen fruit is a great addition to a smoothie. It’s good value, and the benefit of it being frozen means your smoothie will stay chilled. Try our handy frozen smoothie mixes – simply blend up and you’re good to go.
How do you make smoothie without yogurt?
Swap the yogurt for another liquid, such as dairy or plant milk, or a splash of fresh fruit juice, such as apple or orange. If your smoothie is too thick, you can add a splash of water to loosen it.
Should you use water or milk in a smoothie?
It’s your call! Milk will create a creamier texture, and add flavour, while it will also make your smoothie more filling. Water is there to help create the right consistency, but be mindful it won’t add flavour.
How do you make a smoothie bowl?
Simply blitz up your ingredients for a smoothie, then add toppings such as sliced fresh fruit, nuts, seeds or toppers, such as our Good Gut Berry Boost Topper or Brain Food Super Seeded Granola.
