THE INTERVIEW

DANIELLE
VANIER:
AHEAD OF
THE CURVE

As one of Britain’s most in-demand plus-sized style bloggers, 30-year-old Danielle Vanier knows a thing or two about how curvy women want to dress. Here, she reveals how she’s been involved in the launch of the new M&S Curve collection

Danielle Vanier’s blog is packed with body-positive philosophy. Writing about her outfits and recent purchases, she encourages her readers to feel confident whatever their size, while helping to hook them up with her favourite high-street finds.

“Times are changing and plus-sized women don’t just want to wear tents over leggings; we want to wear cool stuff!” she explains. “Just because I have more body weight, doesn’t mean I’m not interested in dressing in an individual way.”

As part of an extensive consultation with M&S, Danielle gave pointers to the buyers and designers tasked with creating the Curve collection. “I wanted to stress that there’s a younger customer out there who might be interested in buying more exciting, trend-focused pieces,” she says.

Frustrated by the lack of partywear on the market for plus-sized women, Danielle rolled up her sleeves for the design of two little black dresses for

the spring launch. “I spotted fabrics and details that could add an edge to the collection, such as sporty mesh and edgy exposed zips,” she explains.

“There’s a real lack of LBDs on the high-street for the curvier woman, and so I wanted to create styles that could be easily dressed up or down for any occasion,” she adds. The result? Dresses that wouldn’t look out of place on the catwalk, yet come in at an accessible £59.

Forget everything you think you know about plus-sized fashion: Curve offers contemporary wardrobe staples thoughtfully tailored for the fuller figure, as opposed to simply made bigger. Think tops with longer hemlines, gorgeous fabrics that don’t cling and discreet elasticated panelling on sleeves for added ease.

Available in sizes 16 to 32 in-store and online, Curve grants Danielle’s wish “for plus-sized women to be able to wear the same kind of cool and stylish clothes as all their friends.”
