Chocolate-covered apples are a brilliant festive treat; great for Bonfire Night, Halloween or Christmas. These red-fleshed apples are an ideal canvas for lashings of chocolate, and their tart interior is well balanced by the sweet and salty pieces of pretzels, popcorn and peanuts.

step 1
Fill a saucepan with boiling water over medium-high heat. Add the milk chocolate (100 g) and dark chocolate (100 g) to a heatproof bowl and set over the pan of simmering water. Stir the chocolate until it has melted completely.
step 2
Meanwhile, put the apples (4) into a heatproof bowl and pour over some boiling water, then drain. Wash the apples under some hot water afterwards.
step 3
Line a tray with some baking parchment. Place each apple onto a wooden skewer.
step 4
Once the apples have cooled down, dip the apple into the bowl of melted chocolate and completely coat the apple in chocolate, then leave it to drip over the bowl for a few seconds then place (stick side up) onto the lined tray. Leave the apples to set in the fridge for 15 minutes, or until the chocolate is beginning to set.
step 5
Remove from the fridge and carefully spoon over the chopped very merry munch (300 g) (leaving some pieces of the merry munch a bit bigger), holding the apples by the stick and slowly rotating them, to make sure they are evenly coated.
step 6
With the leftover chocolate, dip the pretzels from the merry munch, into the chocolate and thread it through the skewer. Place the apples back on the tray and leave to set in the fridge for an hour.
