A fresh, fruity dry white that bursts from the glass with wonderful grapefruit and gooseberry flavours then lingers on the palate. This is Sauvignon Blanc at its vibrant best.

About this bottle: M&S winemaker Jeneve Williams has teamed up with the Paradiso team in Chile’s sunny Valle Central to craft this vivid white. Cooled by breezes from the snowy Andes mountain range and the Pacific Ocean, these Sauvignon grapes retain a perfect freshness and the fabulously concentrated flavours have been left completely un-oaked.

Petit Noir Grenache

Vintage: 2012

A luscious red wine, full of fresh raspberry and crushed black pepper aromas. Raspberries again on the palate, satin-smooth at first, then leading to a crisp, mulberry, bramble and pepper finish.

About this bottle: English winemaker Hugh Ryman moved to France with his family in 1974. His intent to make wine took him far and wide: after finishing his studies at Bordeaux university, he worked in Australia for a year, then travelled all over the world, making wine in over 17 different countries. For this red, he has sourced wonderfully intense Grenache fruit from gnarly 40 year old bush-vines in the Minervois.

Petit Noir Viognier

Vintage: 2013

Wonderfully satin-smooth Viognier brimming with buttery vanilla aromas, with subtle hints of violet and green apple in the background. This is a gorgeously fruity wine that balances exuberance with amazing subtlety. There's a lovely mandarin and lemon tang of acidity and a firm, mineral finish that keeps it lively and tongue-tingling.

About this bottle: Charismatic English winemaker Hugh Ryman moved to France in 1974 with his family. After finishing his oenology studies in Bordeaux, he began flying all over the world - to more than17 different countries - to make wine. Today he has settled down, and this gorgeous Southern French Viognier is the result of gently fermented grapes given a three month rest on their yeast lees. No oak was needed to supplement this wine's vivid natural fruit characters.

Drift Point Shiraz

Vintage: 2012

Rich red wine filled with cranberry and fresh plum aromas. Bitter cherry, black, raisin fruit and earthy soft tannins come through on the palate along with an enticing hint of wild herbs. This fabulous Shiraz has all the creamy smoothness of a ripe New World wine, but an edge of Northern Rhône sophistication too - harking back to its Syrah cousins in France.

About this bottle: The new Shiraz wines emerging from South Africa are showing such depth and concentration that they can hardly be ignored. This majestic wine, made by Marinda Kruger van Eck, comes from Tulbagh – a bowl of vineyards surrounded by towering mountain ranges rising to over 1,500m: the Obiqua Mountains to the west, Winterhoek Mountain to the north and the Witsenberg range to the east. The terroir in the foothills of these mountains allows many distinctive notes to come through in the wines – they need no oak embellishment.

River Retreat Shiraz

Vintage: 2013

Deep purple-red wine with tempting aromas of dark berries and chocolate. The balance of dark cherry fruit alongside subtle notes of oak, soft tannins and silky smooth texture on the palate is sublime, and makes for an utterly delicious mouthful.

About this bottle: This Shiraz is harvested in mid- to late-January, just when these Aussie grapes are at optimum ripeness. This is earlier than most Australian wine regions due to the baking summer heat of the inland Murray-Darling region. The grapes are wonderfully natural and intensely flavoured as this hot, dry region needs little disease control or chemical use and irrigation is only sparingly used as water is very precious here. A little French and American oak is used to round out the flavours of this deep and delicious red.

Quincho Chardonnay

Vintage: 2013

Vivid butter yellow wine with tints of green. This is a generous yet easy-drinking white wine with a creamy texture and exuberant tropical fruit characters that fill the palate. A fine-tuned thread of minerality keeps the flavours lively and poised - elegant all the way through to a long lingering finish.

About this bottle: With the Andes Mountains to the East, the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Atacama Desert to the north and ancient glaciers to the South, there are many mighty influences on the wines of Chile’s wine heartland. At the centre of it all is the Maule Valley. Here, plenty of sunlight, dry, hot weather and fresh sea breezes make perfect Chardonnay territory. Winemaker Héctor Saldivia knows just when to harvest and crush the fruit to bring out its flavours at their finest. This Chardonnay is unoaked.

Michel Torino Coleccion Pinot Noir

Vintage: 2013

Rich, perfumed red with apple and strawberry scents and an enticing toffee-sweetness. Glides across the palate with plum and strawberry smoothness followed by layers of truffle, chocolate, walnut, gentle star anise and a hint of earth. Utterly modern, yet beguilingly complex.

About this bottle: There are not too many wineries in the Calchaqui Valley,’ admits winemaker Alejandro Pepa. And it is true, this is very much a newly discovered ‘boutique’ area among Argentinian wine regions. Its very cold mornings and nights, combined with baking hot sunshine during the day and very little rainfall, lead to fabulous ripeness and deep flavour concentration in the grapes. Perfect conditions for Pinot Noir!

Michel Torino Coleccion Sauvignon Blanc

Vintage: 2013

Aromas of acacia flowers followed by showy but simple notes of grapefruit, white peach and pepper on the palate. This white is all about freshness, purity and stylish elegance - mouthwatering right to the finish.

About this bottle: Few would expect to stumble upon lush vineyards of Sauvignon Blanc after traversing the dramatically craggy mountain scenery of the Calchaqui Valley. But here this grape thrives: fed by snow-melt streams fresh from the Andes, and 350 days of desert sunshine, it squeezes life and amazing flavour concentration seemingly from the bare rocks. Winemaker Alejandro Pepa believes in hand-harvesting and ultra-gentle pneumatic
