Favourite reliable Chianti
Yes, I recommend this
Having been to this vineyard, I was delighted to see this wine in M&S. Always reliable, a good wine for entertaining. Best to decant for an hour before serving.

Sadly this is a necessary follow up to my review before. We opened our fifth of the six wines purchased and it was undrinkable! There was no nose, fruit or flavour. The cork (like the others) showed no obvious cork taint, but the wine was spoiled. All the corks were removed far too easily! Oxidised? Poor storage? Poor transportation? We opened the last of the cases immediately and thankfully it was fine. Anyway a great shame and waste of good wine and time an IWC Silver winner too. Hope the issues are resolved but I now need to look at the tediousreturns process. I hope others have had better luck!

Italian Classic
No, I don't recommend this
A dependable Chianti Classico, normally, unfortunately the third bottle from the purchased case was faulty and not drinkable. Thus the 3 dot rating for quality. A shame as this is usually a very nice wine thus the optimistic 4 stars based on the first two good bottles consumed.

Great value Chianti Classico - a winner!
Yes, I recommend this
Tried several different bottles of Chianti Classico varying in price. This was mid range but came out tops for me. This is a fresh and fruity wine which maintains all the Chianti characteristics. Great value.

I wholeheartedly recommend this wine - excellent (though sadly never in any sale) A good example of how spending £10 to £15 can get you something thats a considerable uptick

Chianti Classico Riserva della Paneretta 2008

Excellent example of this select Tuscan wine, full bodied and fragrant fruit hints and undertones.

Excellent example of its type
Yes, I recommend this
I have always found this wine to be very very typical of the Chianti Classico style; full of sour cherry and cranberry fruit with a crisp acidity and quite green 'stalky' tannins. Granted, this is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but the acidity and tannins will be smoothed by matching the wine with salty food such as hard cheese- this is often the way with quality Italian reds. In my experience (and I must have had the wine close to 35 times in the last year) the wine is absolutely typical- the tannins are fine and ripe, the oak well integrated and the length is excellent. I will hold my hands up, I work in the wine trade, so I may have different expectations of what this wine will taste of. But let me stress, I do not work for Marks and Spencer and have no personal interest at all in this wine. When I have used it as an example to illustrate to people how wine changes when matched with food it has proved to be a hit again and again.

Poor overpriced wine with misleading description
No, I don't recommend this
I bought this wine because of the Decanter and International Wine Challenge awards. Also because of the description above, which makes it sound like a good quality wine. On the contrary, the description above misrepresents this wine. Firstly, this wine does not have a "deep ruby colour" it's very thin looking with a clear rim that a 4 year old wine should not have. The thin look of the wine is also reflected in the palate. This wine does not have flavours of "ripe cherries and mocha" or a "complex palate". That is a terrible misrepresentation of this wine. The wine doesn't display any real fruit notes. The overwhelming characteristic of this wine is high acidity with a bitter slightly stalky afterpalate. I have tasted better produced wines at half the price.
