Pre-heat the oven to 180°C/160°C fan/gas mark 4. Grease a 30cm x 40cm baking dish with a little butter.

Tear the hot cross buns (1 pack) into bite-sized pieces and scatter them over the base of the dish. Whisk 2 tsp of cinnamon (2 tsp) with the milk (350 ml), eggs (2) and 1 tbsp of the caster sugar (1 tbsp) together in a jug, then pour over the buns and set aside to soak for at least 10 minutes.

Mix the diced apples (2) with the remaining 2 tbsp golden caster sugar (2 tbsp) and 1 tsp cinnamon (1 tsp), then spoon over the bun layer.

Rub the butter (75 g) and flour (75 g) together in a mixing bowl, until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir through the oats (50 g) and brown sugar (50 g). Spoon the mixture over the top of the apples.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, until golden on top and bubbling at the edges.
