Method

step 1
Add the fruit (125 g) and vanilla seeds (1) to a small pan over a medium heat. Stir continuously at the beginning while the fruit defrosts. Then, stir more intermittently, until all the fruit has collapsed (you may need to help stubborn blackberries with the back of a fork). There’ll be lots of liquid in the pan. Turn the heat off.
step 2
In a small bowl, mix the cornflour (1 tsp) with 1 tsp water to form a paste. Add this to the compote. Turn the heat back on and stir, letting the liquid bubble while you count to 30. It will be thicker by the end and you can make sure the texture is appropriate for your little one. Later in your weaning journey, you could make a raspberry and rose version by adding rose water (add ¼ tsp at a time to taste), or a cherry and almond version by adding a couple of drops of almond extract.
