Want to shine this Christmas? Here’s how to create three easy party make-up looks whether you’re off to a big do or just hosting in your kitchen

Shine on

The easiest way to elevate your look to next-level party glam? Dial up your eye make-up with a striking metallic shade for maximum impact. Whether you choose gold, silver or bronze is up to you, but the key thing is to be bold: this look is not for wallflowers. It’s super easy to achieve, too (handy if you’re getting ready in the office with no decent mirror) – just apply one shade, sweeping from lid to brow.

A cream or liquid eyeshadow, such as Stila’s Glitter and Glow, has more staying power if you’re going to be on the go for hours. Or choose a palette that has tonal shades for easy blending, using lighter colours on your eyelid and darker ones in the crease. Finish with a coat of lash-defining mascara and a slick of barely-there gloss for your lips – if you’re making a statement with your eyes, you should underplay the rest.

Be bold

If you prefer to keep your eye make-up low- key, there’s another way to go for instant party glam: a bold lip. Ring the changes this year by opting for a rich berry-toned lipstick. Deeper and possibly even more impactful than a classic red lip, it’ll add the necessary drama to your Christmas party look. We like Stila’s Stay All Day liquid lipstick for long-lasting wear or Clinique’s all-in-one lip colour and primer – both will still be going strong when it’s time to call a taxi. Looking for something a little more subtle? Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, gives a gentle hint of colour and shine to your lips with a clever formula that adapts to suit any skin tone.

Glow for it

Christmas party make-up doesn’t have to be bold or colourful. Glowy, vibrant skin is the perfect party look and ideal if you want a more natural aesthetic. Start with an illuminating concealer to brighten your eye area (whether you use foundation or primer first is up to you), such as Autograph’s Luminosity Radiant Concealer, which is available in 15 shades.

Next, define your eyes with neutral eyeshadow or eyeliner and a flick of black mascara. Finally, warm up cheeks and brows with highlighter to add a fresh, glowing finish. One of our go-to favourites is Benefit’s Watts Up. This wonder product can be used over make-up or by itself – simply sweep over cheeks and brows for a gorgeous, rosy-gold glow that’s perfect for festive parties.
