Too Awful to Drink

No, I don't recommend this

Well a huge disappointment! Bought for Christmas lunch pairing and as other reviewers have stated - Thin, watery, acid vinegar taste after swallowing. How can M&S sell this let alone for the price? Don’t buy and waste your money.

2015 Barolo Peironte

No, I don't recommend this

My daughter bought this for me as a gift. I opened this up and found the wine watery and tasteless. I telephoned her to enquire what price she paid for the bottle. She informed me it was £18.00! Reluctantly, I informed her I didn't think the wine was not worth £18 a bottle by any stretch of the imagination. I have had similar wine at £3.00 per bottle. I have spoken with my daughter regarding this and hope that she returns it for a full refund. 14 March 2020.

2015 Barolo wine

No, I don't recommend this

Bought a single bottle at Christmas £15 a bottle. Opened it to drink with Italian meal last weekend. Extremely disappointed , slightly oxidized with a brownish red colour. I expect a decent wine for £15 a bottle. This was not at all what I expect from M&S , could not drink a second glass and ended up using it in a casserole. Should have taken it back but could not be bothered to trail back to the shop.

Disappointing

No, I don't recommend this

I hosted an Italian dinner party recently, and as Barolo is typically my favourite red, I thought I’d go for this bottle for the main. I was unfortunately disappointed. Barolo is usually a rich, complex and heavy wine, but this was extremely thin and bland taste-wise, to the point of being almost watery. It certainly couldn’t make itself heard over the sausage and pepper rigatoni! Incidentally, I also had a beautiful £6 bottle of chianti from another supermarket for before and after the main, which put the Barolo to shame. The sommelier at my local M&S is extremely knowledgable and hasn’t sent me wrong with a recommendation so far, which has led me to believe that M&S generally stock wine of a high quality for a reasonable price - unfortunately, he wasn’t working when I bought this bottle, or I’m sure he would have suggested another. This is all to say, this wine was not what I’ve come to expect from Barolo or M&S.

Barolo Peironte 2013

Yes, I recommend this

Absolutely love this wine! It's smooth and delicate with a distinctive taste. It would be interesting to know which years the bad reviews were written about.

My favourite Barolo

Yes, I recommend this

Of all the Barolos I have tasted this is my favourite. Strong and robust flavours, it is smooth on the palate and is perfect in my opinion with any meal or on its own. Not the cheapest wine but certainly worth the £19 (or less if its on offer) Buy it and enjoy it !!!

Disappointing

No, I don't recommend this

Its really interesting to now see the other reviews, I thought it was just me. Paid £19 for a bottle. I would have said 'so so' for a bottle costing half the price. Rather thin for this style of wine. I was expecting a bit of 'wow' and was disappointed.

Rich and full bodied, with good aromas and flavours. I think this Barolo perfectly reflects the characteristics of Langhe wines.

Massively disappointing Barolo

No, I don't recommend this

Tasted awful. Even at half the price it would have been a let-down. Bought a case for Christmas thinking I could trust the M&S wine buyers even though I hadn't tasted it. Had they?! Dreadful. Destroys customer loyalty. Apologies but I take my wine seriously.

very poor Barolo

No, I don't recommend this

Always wanted to try a Barolo which is supposed to be a top Italian wine. Very disappointed. Not much flavour or depth. Very inferior to other cheaper Italian reds than M&S sell.

thin, bitter, nasty

No, I don't recommend this

Possibly the worst wine I've ever had, in fact I wonder if it was corked... the taste was thin and flat, bitter and horrible tannins. Spat it out.

Italian Favourite

Yes, I recommend this

I have purchased this wine many times and it is one of my favourites. This wine is everything a good Barola should be: smooth and not too heavy with lovely flavours and a lingering finish. Buy it, you will not be disappointed
