Terribly unstable car, worst Lego build
Originally posted on LEGO

This is the worst Lego set I've come across. It is poorly designed & a very unstable model it falls apart when you put the slightest pressure on it. The floor of the car and side pods are not secure at all. What I don't understand is the 2023 version of the same car set 76919 was fine, sorry Lego you got this set very wrong.

Fantastic gift!

I must have bought over 10k Lego sets for myself and my family. Over the recent sets (especially speed champion and f1) I have noticed a significant degradation in its design and stability. The parts easily fall off indicating a lack of sufficient thoughts in designing the sets and how parts connect each other. Lego is no longer as fun as it used to be and we often find it necessary to use glue to strength the connection which sounds ridiculous on itself. You should really pay attention to your quality rather than keeping raising the price. This is so disappointed and frustrating, not worth the money and time at all.

We know how frustrating it is when parts aren't staying in place. However, you should never need to use glue to keep your sets together. If you'd like a hand troubleshooting the build, please give us a shout at LEGO.build/Service-BV.
Perfect for Formula 1 and Lego fans

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My autistic son loves Formula 1 and Lego, so this set was perfect for him. He can sometimes struggle with instruction books, but he found the free Lego Builder app a great support to help him along the way. He’s already halfway through building and can’t wait to display it when he’s done. I was very impressed with the amount of detail that has gone into the car design, although my son found the stickers a little tricky to put on. This could be him worrying that he would mess it up. He’s already talking about what car he wants to build next, so I can see him really loving this collection.

I was so excited that Lego came out with all the teams in this size. I already had the McLaren from a previous year. This set was a bit frustrating to build. The side panels are held on by a single dot. So as I continued to build the sides kept falling off. And I had the same issue with the floor panels. Once it was fully built, it still kept falling apart. This set is so fragile. It's not as fun to play with as the older McLaren set. Which stays together and rolls better.

The amount of detail is fantastic

I was blown away by the amount of detail on this model and by how it didn't look like a Lego kit! I've seen plenty of larger Lego models that were spoilt by lots of Lego pimples on show. How Lego avoided this on such a small model is down to good design and specially made parts. The decal on the McLaren closely matches that on the 2025 cars and looks really good. I'm sure that other models in the range are of an equal standard, and I'm sure I'll be adding other models in the future.

Horrible!

This was my final F1 build in the series. The other 9 were a lot of fun to build. I understand LEGO was trying to keep the builds independent to make them interesting, however, this one falls WAY short of keeping up. Far to many small pieces that fall apart while you are assembling other pieces. It was seriously boring, tedious and I couldn't wait to finish it so I could forget about it. I also was given two pieces (6510144) so I couldn't even finish the build. I need (6510130). Also, the one stud piece at the front uses a sticker in this set, in all of the others it is a printed piece. The sticker is very small and requires steady hands to affix it properly. The end result is a nice looking car, but it wasn't worth the effort. F- for F1!

Disappointing

The other Mclaren F1 set 76919 has a much better build style, which also became core build style for the new F1 series set. The new one had very disappointing build experience, where couple YouTube videos mentioned too. After building it myself, I do agree with those criticisms. I feel bottom of the vehicle could've been using better blocks. It drags along. Lot of pieces are also quite unstable, especially comparing to the red bull, which was solid.

Underwhelming, with playability issues.

I was most excited to begin playing with the LEGO Formula 1 McLaren MCL38, and I was dismayed to find that many aspects of the set made it quite unplayable. I also found that the construction of the car was not sturdy. Amongst the many issues of the car, there was the fact that, although they appeared to be firmly fixed on, the side panels kept falling off which I found extremely annoying. On top of that, I noticed that the undercarriage of the model was scraping the ground as I moved it! In order to counter all these faults, I was forced to strip the underside of the model of all the pieces that were touching the floor. Overall, an underwhelming experience.

Step 36 involves putting on these side panels. They are attached by a single stud and fall off extremely easy.
