[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been running/walking (living in) Brooks Ghost 16s for 2 years or more. I have several pairs and LOVE them. I was planning to LOVE the 17s, but they're a step backwards for me. The cushioning is still great. But the cut is higher on the ankle and actually digs in a little and causes me some irritation on both sides. (This never happened on the 16s and caught me completely off-guard). The tongue is also cut differently and I have to adjust it more. They just not as comfortable ... not on in terms of the cushion, the foot strike or even the slightly increase in the thickness of the sole ...but in terms of the shape/cut of the fabrics involved in the upper. I'm beyond sad about this. I still give them a 4 out of 5 because I think the construction of the sole is still great and I love the feel of it. But I don't think I'll be able to buy another pair and might use my new ones primarily for walking. I think I'd have blisters near the ankle if I ran marathon length or significant long runs in them. And that is truly sad considering my love affair with the 16s. (NOTE: BROOKS, I HOPE YOU'RE READING THIS AND CAN CHANGE THEM BACK TO A LOWER CUT AROUND THE ANKLE AND A ROUNDER TONGUE!!). Thank you! (I also wore Brooks Launch for at least 10 years ... so long-time fan).

Ghost

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Brooks are not as comfortable as they used to be. I have about 18 pairs of Brooks. Some old and some not so old. The older ones ( even ones from last year), for much better. They seem to run smaller and narrower even within a year or two of the same model.

Nice cushion

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice cushion. I thought it was going to be too narrow but it only took a couple of wearings before the fit was better.

Ghost 17’s are best!!

Love the shoes. Maximum comfort. Tho I can no longer run, they are my favorites for distance walking! I wear the shoes in narrow width.

I have always worn ghosts for over a decade and always picked wide. now I am getting blisters which I would never get. Any run over 30 minutes. I read they were made more narrow now. Spent so much and had to stop wearing them.

Only shoes I will ever buy. Have never found another shoe that works for my feet.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These are the best shoes if you need a solid support system. Fit perfectly from the start. Only shoes I have never had to go through a break in period with. Fit like a glove. Love them!!

Why did they try to "fix" what wasn't broken????

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm so disappointed in this iteration. I've been a loyal Brooks Ghost lover for 10 years now, since the Ghost 9, so I expected a comfortable ride that sort of "disappeared" underneath me. Instead, these felt clunky, made me feel my forefoot with every step, and were really, really hard on my calves. I don't think it was just the change in drop from 12 to 10, since I wear 8mm drop shoes from Saucony for speed work with no issues. Sadly, I'll be hunting for another shoe, but will remain hopeful that I can go back to the Ghost 18's if they go back to what made this shoe so incredible.

Unwearable: Drastically different from prior models

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

I’ve been wearing Brooks for 9 years. My Ghost 15’s wore out and I bought the 17 as a replacement in December . I immediately noticed something felt off with the shape of the heel. It felt extremely stiff and too low around my ankle. As others have said, I thought I needed to break them in (but never had to do that with former pairs of Brooks) but that never happened. They remained uncomfortable. I’ve spent the past 3 months trying other models of Brooks and now other brands of running shoes with no luck yet. I’m hopeful Brooks will listen to our feedback and reintroduce an earlier model of the Ghost (like model 15 or earlier). If they do, I will look forward to becoming a customer again. If not, sadly Brooks is no longer for me.

Glad I went back!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had switched from ghosts to glycerins a little while ago because I felt that my ghosts kept losing their cushion. I was ready to go back to ghosts because I felt that my last model glycerins were too cushy. I got the ghost 17 and I'm very happy with them. I the laces and the stiffer back to put my foot in easier. The tongue is a little puffy but I think that is more because of my foot than the shoe that it presses down a little bit. I like that they propel me forward. Aunt are easy to have on all day

Fabulous shoe

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the cushion and support that the Ghost 17 offer my feet, they do not feel fatigued after long runs on the street or trail. I have run many half and full marathon in Brooks shoes and I plan on running more in these shoes. I really enjoy my runs in this shoe.

Awkward pitch

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have owned Ghost shoes from 12-17, 16 is my favorite, 17 my least favorite. The Ghost 17 pitch my foot to the outside which feels awkward when walking.

Very pleased with shoe

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am unable to wear any shoe, certain ones affect my knees. Ghost 17 feel like my feet are stepping on a pillow with each step. I also don't have any knee pain. Very comfortable shoes for a long day of work.

Not the same

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m so disappointed with the changes made to the Ghost. It’s been my go-to shoe for nearly 20 years. I always knew I could take it straight from the box, lace up, and hit the road. They used to perfectly fit my wide toe box/narrow heel foot. This iteration feels like wearing a boat- it’s wide all over, the arch support disappeared, and my heels are swimming. My feet actually had to recover from wearing them. My ankle tendons throbbed after wearing them for a day. Sadly- I sent them back and am on the hunt for a new shoe. :(
