Amazing Set for a Little Space Enthusiast

Got this set for my 5 year old, she really enjoyed how the whole thing came together and the gear work in it. She was really happy to learn more about the solar system, had a long discussion about it after building the set.

Ticks all the boxes as the best of Technic

This set has much to offer. It does its job well in showing the timing of movements of the Earth, Sun and Moon. It celebrates gears and mechanisms that are too often hidden behind panels in other sets. It is full of functionality and movement where some other sets are just for static display. It has interesting pieces, especially the spheres and circular beams, so good that I bought 4 sets. More Technic sets like this please! Just for fun, with a second set I converted it to the Tatooine system of twin suns and 3 moons; the planet could do to be tan-coloured but it's all about using the pieces you have.

Great product needs more design

He enjoyed the gearing and visual of the build. He did wish they had added more planets to the design. He like that it displayed the month and moon phase that was current to today's day and you could change it. He liked the earth was tilted on an angle to make it factual. The turntable below earth and the moon was cleaver.

My kids love this set. My oldest figured to spin the sun to speed through the years. Honestly, I prefer reeling in the years. Just another joy with extreme replay value.

Incomplete instructions

No, I don't recommend this
The instructions booklet for this is missing steps and pieces necessary for it to work completely. I took it apart twice to find fixes for issues with the gears, and still can't make it work properly. Know that if you follow the assembly instructions exactly, you will not have a working final product. Use the spare pieces and a few extras laying around, and you might get it working properly.

It's a fun build

It's a fun build. I would like it if there was a way to show I labeled and did everything correctly. How do I know the earth and moon phases are correct? I also very much dislike having to apply stickers.

I've had this set on my wishlist for a while now. Every time I see it in stores I just WANT it so badly!!! Finally made the purchase, and I'm so happy! Watching it come together was such a joy...sure, it was a bit tricky (a few times I had to triple check a step) but it looks so cool! Definitely in my top 10 favorite sets!

5 different rotations all being controlled by one crank. It's incredibly accurate! My only beef and it's very subtle... the phases of the moon are depicted from the southern hemisphere and without using scissors on the stickers, there isn't much you can do. I think Lego should offer a northern hemisphere sticker set.

I got this set had fun building it and after it was all built I counted the rotations of earth and lunar cycles and they were both spot on with the real numbers. With the total earth rotations being at 365 and the the total lunar cycles being 12.

Impressed by the model in general, the only thing I found funny was how America was printed since the equator seems to go across Mexico

I loved building this set. Plus, it was very easy to motorize (easy to find on the internet), which I highly recommend doing. The orbital movements are beautiful! I like this so much that I now wish LEGO would come out with the entire Solar System as a large Technic Adults Welcome build! Go for it, LEGO!

My grandson was literally “ OVER THE MOON” when he opened the box with this Lego set inside. He thought I had used the empty box to wrap a different item!!! His delight was boundless! He focused entirely on the project and completed it in two days! WIN! Win!

l love the Space themed Lego so when l saw this set l had to have it. The price is a little high but once you start building it's worth it! The mechanism is very complicated but straightforward if you follow the instructions carefully. Once completed the model operates well and is great to turn the handle and watch it all working. A few have commented that it isn't to scale. Of course it isn't, it would be impossible. But the timings are correct including the moon phase, which is amazing. And someone commented that the model is incorrect because in reality the "sun doesn't rotate in relation to the Earth" Yes it does. The sun rotates once every 27 days. And the model is again accurate in this respect.

It was really fun, but a little hard to build. I’d suggest this for people who are maybe 13 and up.

I’d been on the lookout for a set like this for a while (space, mechanical, Technic) and was so happy when this was announced - even happier putting it together! I put it together once myself and then had my students assemble it shortly after to coincide with a total solar eclipse that occurred in our area. I’ve put together many sets with my classes over the years (Haunted House, Crane Truck, ISS to name a few), but this was the first that really captured the engineering spirit I try to reinforce in many of my lessons. It was straight up too hard for quite a few students who couldn’t follow directions or recognize one gear instead of another. In my opinion though, that was perfect as it afforded those who did understand the opportunity to tear it down and problem solve with their classmates. I’ll never forget the look of accomplishment on the student who finished it when they turned the crank and it worked - truly magical. Anyways, thank you for making this set - would love to see something mechanical for other branches of science!
