Nice shoes but painful on the heel

I bought this a month ago as a present for my partner. When he first tried them on, loved them and found them comfortable, but then actually wearing them has caused his heels to bleed. It is a shame as they are a nice pair of shoes, suitable for smart and causal wear. Too late to return now and I wouldn't recommend unless willing to withstand the pain to break them in!
