What is charcuterie?
Charcuterie is a type of French cuisine referring to prepared meats such as ham, sausages, salami, bacon, galantines, and pâtés. This timeless tradition has evolved into creating elaborate spreads with delicious additions like cheese, fruits, nuts, and crackers. The perfect charcuterie board is all about balancing flavours, so aim for a mix of sweet, salty, creamy, and tangy.

How to make a charcuterie board
Choose your board – Choose something large enough for all the components you’d like to use. This acacia wooden serving board has a round handle for easy serving.
Pick your meats – Pick up a selection of meats to serve in your board. A good rule of thumb is to serve about 80-100g per person for an appetiser or starter.
Select your cheese – Serve a selection of cheese with a variety of flavours, from mild and creamy brie to bold and punchy mature cheddar. Use odd numbers – three meats and three cheeses provides a nice variety.
Add crackers and breads – You’ll need something to scoop up all the component of your board. These Collection Rye Sourdough Crackers, crafted with sourdough and rich rye flour, are the perfect partner to meats and cheese. Or add some extra bold and cheesy flavour with these all butter Collection Cruncher Biscuits.
Fill in with extras – Add an extra special touch and fill in any gaps with accompaniments. A jar or two of sharp and tangy chutney balances the flavours and a scattering of mixed nuts adds some much-needed crunch.
Arrange your board and serve – Start by arranging your largest items first, like blocks of cheese and serving pots. Then fan out the charcuterie meats, serve in rustic piles, or fold neatly. Fill in any remaining space with your extras and add cheese knives, mini spoons, and skewers for serving.
