Best in season: February

Despite these dark and gloomy February days, there’s an abundance of colourful fruit and veg in season to brighten things up. I'm enjoying turning purple sprouting broccoli into deliciously crispy tempura. Meanwhile, electric-pink forced rhubarb is finding its way, for a brief period at least, into beautifully bright desserts, as well as citrus fruits, like juicy red grapefruits and blood oranges. Expect to see plenty of root veg still in season, like parsnips and swede, plus new M&S-exclusive Imperator carrots and roastie-ready Trinity Gold Potatoes – I know what I'll be cooking with my Sunday roast chicken.
