Faux fur how-to

Textured coats definitely win the award for ‘most comfy new-season trend’ – the question is how
do you wear them? Follow womenswear editor Charlene Barton’s simple (and very cosy) guide

The faux-fur coat

Should you try a faux-fur coat this winter? The answer is yes. The trend has become a
stroke-able success with designers, including Stella McCartney, sending models out in cosy ‘fur-free’ creations.

Here comes the tricky part: getting the silhouette right. Most faux-fur pieces are oversized, so balance your bottom half with skinny-fit jeans or a pencil skirt and knee-high boots. Keep the palette neutral and let the coat be the focus

Shearling style

Another snuggly option to try: shearling. With the retro revival showing no signs of waning, you can count on sheepskin to keep you bang on trend.

From classic flying jackets to lengthier styles (look to Chloé, left, for the latter), there’s a silhouette for everyone. Team it with a floaty maxi dress if you’re feeling bohemian, otherwise layer up with head-to-knitwear for a cool
texture clash

All the trimmings

If you don’t want to go all-out on a trend, there are ways to just dip your toe, namely in the form of accessories. This winter, go soft with a furry stole, scarf, hat, gloves – even bags have been given the warm and fuzzy treatment.

Take your cue from the just-so draped scarves featured on Michael Kors’ catwalk (right) to nail fur-trimmed sophistication.
