Chocolate bark decorated with Percy Easter sweets and chocolate eggs

Try a choc-tastic no-bake creation

A homemade chocolate ‘bark’ is fun to make, and looks super impressive. Better yet, you can mix up the ingredients to use whatever you have in the cupboards.

To make it, line a baking tray with greaseproof paper (or use oiled tin foil) and melt 300g chocolate – we used milk, but white, dark or a mixture would work. Next, melt 100g white chocolate. Pour the melted chocolate into a tray, then blob the white chocolate on top and swirl to make a marble pattern (kids will love to help, too).

Next, get the kids to help decorate with chocolate eggs and sweets. We’ve used Percy meets the Easter bunny sweets and chicky choccy speckled eggs (pick them up in store as part of our 3 for 2 offer) – but here are some other ideas:

  • Dried fruit and nuts
  • Marshmallows and crushed-up biscuits
  • Berries, such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, and white chocolate

Get everyone baking up a storm

Younger kids can help make cupcakes. Try our simple recipe below, then get creative with some fun decorating ideas.

Makes 12 vanilla cupcakes:

Preheat the oven to 180°C/160°C fan/gas mark 4 and line a 12-hole muffin tin with cake cases.

Beat 120g butter and 120g caster sugar until light and fluffy. Add a beaten egg a little at a time, stir in 1tsp vanilla extract, then fold in 120g self-raising flour. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until risen and golden.

Easy icing and topping ideas:

  • Make buttercream icing by beating 140g butter with 275g icing sugar until light and fluffy (add a little milk if it's too stiff). Use to top cupcakes and decorate with chocolate eggs and sweets
  • Add a little cocoa powder to the icing, then top with grated chocolate
  • Add fresh berries to the icing as you beat it, then decorate the cakes with fresh berries
  • Add a spoonful of lemon curd to the icing, and sprinkle lemon zest over the finished cakes

Giant chocolate cookie

Serve up a family-sized chocolate cookie

What’s better than a freshly baked homemade cookie? A giant one, of course! Get kids to help with measuring, stirring and decorating this sweet creation, and serve with ice-cream or milk.

Makes one 22cm cookie:

175g unsalted butter
200g light soft brown sugar
1 egg, plus 1 extra yolk
250g self-raising flour
2 tsp cornflour
1 tsp baking powder
100g milk chocolate chopped into chunks
A handful of chicky choccy eggs, or any chocolate eggs or sweets, to decorate

Preheat the oven to 200°c/180°c fan/gas mark 6.
Beat the butter and sugar until pale and creamy. Then mix in the egg and egg yolk.
Combine the flour, cornflour and baking powder, and then fold through the egg, butter and sugar mix.
Add the chunks of chocolate and stir until evenly combined.
Pour into the greased cake tin and bake for 20 minutes or until light golden brown.
Remove from the oven and gently press in the chicky choccy eggs.
Allow to cool slightly, then serve with ice-cream or double cream.

Top tip: Make a double batch of the cookie dough, wrap in cling film and freeze, ready to be defrosted and made into fresh cookies whenever you fancy.
