Product code: 00112352
An expressive and balanced Bordeaux from one of the great modern vintages, rich with black fruit and toasty cedar notes.
Dating back to 1235, Château Citran is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. At various times in its history, it has been owned by the Marquess de Donissan, the Miailhe brothers, even a Japanese conglomerate. The estate is in Avensan, right in the heart of the Haut-Médoc, close to Margaux. Château Citran's 100 hectares of vineyards lie on two types of soils: gravel / clay and limestone. The vineyards are principally planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Merlot. For this fulsome 2005 wine a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot was used, incorporating grapes from the estate’s central Haut-Médoc Avensan vineyards and its plot adjacent to Margaux. To cultivate Château Citran’s large vineyards, each plot is treated according to its needs, with a wide variety of viticultural techniques used according to terroir. In the cellar, winemaker Manuel Pacheco matures the wine in traditional French oak barrels (35% new) for 15 months.
