Château Croix De Labrie - Case of 6

Product code: 00194273

A limited edition Saint-Emilion from one of the region’s smallest grand cru estates, opulent and complex with rich fruit notes.

Owned by the Courdurie family, who have updated the estate’s winery and cellars over recent years, Croix De Labrie is a tiny château in the right-bank Saint-Emilion appellation. Comprising just 2.3 hectares of vineyards (planted to 98% Merlot vines - mostly around 4 years of age), the estate benefits from favourable sandy-clay soils. In keeping with its small size, Croix De Labrie employ special ‘micro-vinification’ techniques. Winemaking consultants Jean Luc Thunevin and Michel Rolland have cuvées vinified entirely in small oak barrels, allowing a ‘wilder’, more natural character to develop. The wines are typically finished in new French oak barrels for around 18 months. Drink 2019-2027.

Expensive but worth it

Yes, I recommend this

This is an excellent wine. It is robust (actually 15% abv, not 14.5% as described) but, despite its relative youth, beautifully balanced. It has plenty of fruit but also depth. It will develop over the next 15 years if kept properly (ignore the 2027 deadline). There is a tasting of it by renowned sommelier Andreas Larsson on YouTube which is worth a look. Is any wine really worth this serious money? It is if you treat it seriously. Store it in a place which is out of the sun, cool and without big temperature variations - we don't all have cellars or wine fridges and they aren't necessary. Open the bottle three hours before drinking and decant it (to remove any trace of sediment, not much here yet, and let the air get at it). Eat it with good food - I had my first bottle with a prime steak followed by a good cheddar. Enjoy it in good company - fine wine deserves an audience. And spread the case out over a number of years to enjoy it as it develops. For no more than the price of a good meal out you can have an experience to remember for a long time.
