They’re ok
Yes, I recommend this
Not many 100% cotton cargo shorts suitable for school on the market sadly. They are pull up style so may not suit boys with a larger waist. Got these for my 4 year old and he wore them for a year. They wash ok, but seem a little faded..

Disappointed...
No, I don't recommend this
Whilst it it is great that M&S do a 'skin kind' pair of shorts I fail to understand why the sizes come up differently to the other school shorts M&S sell. I ordered size 8-9 for my son which is the size he currently wears and found these are far too small. I thought I could rely on M&S sizing to be consistent but apparently not. Definitely order a size bigger!

No opening on the waist band! They are pull on!

I have just bought this shorts for the new term 2015/15 and I have noticed that the style has been changed from last year. M&S has once again reduced the cost of making the shorts by taking out the metal hook on the waist, although the description on the web page says -elasticated with hook and bar + mock fly. I am very disappointed, after having bought three pairs last year this is very annoying! My son loved these trousers but now he doesn't like them as they are pull on trousers, (they will be ok for nursery children but not very nice for school children!)

my sons loves wearing those shorts
Yes, I recommend this
My son suffers from eczema and he only wears cotton. I was really pleased to see that M&S does cotton shorts. They were so difficult to find. I was a bit unsure about the cargo style, but my son looks and feels very good in those shorts. I will buy some more.

Very poor quality

These are not the same shorts as previously bought. The finish on the hem is awful. You can see the stitching and it is not done well - you can see the bad joins and is already coming undone. Will be returning without my son even trying them on.

Not school shorts and completely different size

As per another reviewer, I was surprised these are in the school wear section. The colour was verging on khaki, the material thick and rough (not sensitive or soft as expected!). In another colour they'd be nice casual shorts. However I had to order, return and reorder these twice as the size came up very, very small compared to the other m&s school shorts (I ended up ordering age 12-13 for my 10 year old and they had a max 28 inch waist which was still too small!). His other m&s shorts are aged 9-10 and the same waist size despite being two age sizes smaller. Frustrating and a generally poor experience of online shopping.

Not school shorts

Bought these as didn't have the size I needed in the 'real' school shorts. Sorry but they are horrible and would think my boy would look scruffy going to school in these - ok for camping though.

glorious cotton
Yes, I recommend this
Very pleased at last to be able to send son to school wearing cotton shorts rather than 100% plastic with teflon coating. Material is quite thick and should last a good while.

A let down
No, I don't recommend this
I usually buy the M&S Boys' Cargo Shorts (T764947) which by the way are BRILLIANT! but they were out of stock so had to settle with these. I wanted either black or dark grey. They look very dark on picture but when the arrived they were not what I had expected at all. Not only very light in colour but the material was more like a chino. After just one wash at 40 they came out looking old and well worn and are TERRIBLE to iron. Can never get all of the creases out. Well made and no doubt ideal for people with very sensitive skin but not worth the money as they look so tatty after just one wash / iron. I would expect M&S products to look great for longer just like the cargo shorts I purchased - now these really are great and have been washed many times and still look brand new. I would not recommend this product

Not as dark grey as photo suggests
Yes, I recommend this
Went for these shorts as my son was wanting black shorts and M & S had no black shorts but going by the photo, these looked like very very dark grey, nearly black. Slightly disappointed to find they are more slate grey. My son likes the shorts but would still have preferred black. The material is very thick twill-like material, was worried they would look worn and faded at seems because of this and I have been proved right. Only been washed a couple of times and ironed on reverse and they look like they have been through the wash quite a lot. However the finish inside is brilliant with all seems very smooth and very professionally finished off. Was looking for a label to attach a name tag too but there are none, washing instructions are on the inside of one of the pockets. Genius! No labels to irritate, well done M & S, should do this for all ranges. I probably would buy these again only because of the finish inside and the price was fantastic for the quality but would really like if M & S could make black shorts available in the material they use for the trousers.
