We have more RSPCA Assured products than any other national retailer, including our slower-reared, Oakham™ Gold fresh chicken. The higher-welfare Oakham™ Gold birds are fed a multigrain diet and have more space to roam. Why slower reared? Well, we believe this more natural rearing approach means the birds have a much better quality of life, can be more active, and can express their natural behaviours better, which will ultimately help produce a better-tasting, better-quality fresh chicken for M&S customers.
Meet our chicken farmer Andy Darch
Andy Darch is the owner of Collards Farm in Sedgemoor, Somerset, and one of the proud M&S Select Farmers supplying us with Oakham™ Gold chicken. These chickens are naturally slower-reared for maximum flavour, and have 20% more space to roam than birds reared to the Red Tractor welfare standard. They also have hay bales to perch on, room to spread their wings and even toys to play with. Plus, all M&S Oakham™ Gold chicken is 100% RSPCA Assured.
