Nabeela SaghirHow do you put lights on a christmas tree
Whether you're opting for a warm glow, a bright white finish or something a little more luxe, hanging Christmas tree lights horizontally is a tried-and-true method. Starting at the bottom, simply weave the lights over and under the branches until you reach the top. Plug in your lights first to help guide you. For variety, try wrapping individual branches with single-string lights, or use a weaving technique if you're working with cluster lights.
The vertical lighting approach has become popular in recent years, as it lets the lights shine without branches getting in the way. Want to know how to put lights on a Christmas tree vertically? Start with the plugless end at the top of the tree and drape the lights down toward the bottom. Then, turn the lights back the other way and repeat, working your way around the tree in a loose, sideways “S” pattern.
The best way to hang Christmas lights for a festive display
There's no need to stop at the tree; why not continue the festive theme and display twinkling lights throughout your home? To hang Christmas lights around windows, on walls or from the ceiling, use hooks, adhesive putty or drawing pins to hold the wires in place without causing damage, then simply adjust the lights until they sit where you want them. Top tip: check all the lights are working properly first, so you don’t have to redo all your hard work later.
For an elegant finishing touch, add a light-up wreath decoration. With its 800 LED lights in a warm white hue, it brings a welcoming glow to your space and ties your festive look together beautifully. You can also hang fairy lights without damaging your walls by winding them around banisters, draping them over a full-length mirror or displaying them on your mantelpiece.
Hanging exterior christmas lights
Make the most of your garden and charm your neighbours by creating a magical outdoor Christmas lights display. First, make sure you pick lights that are safe for garden use – our outdoor lights range is a good place to start. You'll find mains-powered lights (ideal if you have an outdoor power supply or weatherproof extension lead), solar-powered lights and battery-powered lights (perfect for those without access to an outdoor power supply).
Hang star-shaped lights from gutters using decorating clips or gutter hooks, or wind fairy lights around trees or bushes for a subtle nod to the season. Want maximum festive impact with minimum fuss? Light-up trees or this set of two lanterns are an easy way to add some magic to your outside space, with no hanging required whatsoever.
