Beloved by Nineties girl bands and late-noughties A-listers, cargo pants are back. This time around they come in a spectrum of neutral shades, from classic khaki to soft pink, and in a flattering tapered fit that can be styled numerous ways to take you through summer and into autumn. For a pretty-meets-practical look, team camouflage cargo pants with one of summer’s best tops and tees, in a classic shade of white, black or navy blue. Finish the look with a pair of tan sandals and gold hoop earrings.
Cargo trousers, but make them smart
Straight-cut blue jeans plus a blazer is the smart-casual combination that’s trending this season, but cargo pants plus a blazer is a look that works just as well. Give the casual trousers a more polished feel by teaming them with a double-breasted blazer and classic striped top. Nod to the sleek lines of the blazer with minimalist leather sandals or lean into the utility origins of cargo trousers by teaming them with a pair of chunky boots for a look that will see you into autumn.
Cargo trousers, but make them classic
The white shirt is a fashion classic and you probably own at least one already. They’re versatile, timeless and have a uniform-like simplicity that means they can be styled with almost anything in your wardrobe – including combat trousers. A white pure linen shirt (as seen on fashion blogger Erika Fox) will keep you cool when the temperature rises, just roll up the sleeves for a relaxed look. Continue the classic theme with a pair of black leather penny loafers.
