Wear it Your Way: Your Summer Wardrobe Sorted

Jayne Cherrington-CookYour holiday hero: the patterned shirt
When it comes to men’s summer shirts, patterned is the way forward. Whether you choose floral or abstract, keep the colours muted to make it feel wearable (and not like you’ve raided the fancy-dress box).
If you’re into the trend but slightly daunted by statement prints, just remember the golden styling rule: to bring the look together, pick shorts or trousers in a plain or neutral colour that matches a shade from your printed shirt.
This floral pure cotton shirt fits the bill with its laid-back regular fit and a soft, tonal print that’s bold enough for holiday days, but still easy to style with ecru, navy or stone.

The must-have polo shirt
Lightweight knitwear still earns its place in summer, especially a polo shirt. It looks sharp with light-wash jeans or tailored trousers, and it’s ideal for cooler mornings or al fresco evenings.
This cotton-rich ribbed style feels a touch more elevated, thanks to the zip neck (wear it open for laid-back, done up for smarter occasions). It comes in four shades including pistachio – an easy way to add a fresh hit of colour. Try it with cream linen trousers and finish with a blazer or bomber to nail that smart-casual sweet spot.

Shorts that go anywhere
Shorts, thank goodness, aren’t just for the beach anymore. The trick is choosing a pair that looks smart enough for a coffee run, a city day out or a romantic dinner. That’s where chino shorts come in. They’re cleaner, sharper and easier to dress up than denim or cargo styles, and the most flattering length is still a few inches above the knee.
For a pair that works everywhere, go for a linen-blend. It’s breathable, lightweight and naturally relaxed, ideal when the temperature climbs. A neutral stripe is the easiest way to add a bit of interest without going full statement, and it pairs with pretty much everything: plain T-shirts, a crisp white shirt or even a subtle print if you keep the colours pared back.
